I'm finding bad movies in my collection and am starting to worry. I use Shrink 2.3 to rip and Nero to burn. The bad ones play for a while, get kind of blocky for lack of a better term the stop playing. Heres the kicker, either my dad or myself rip to an external hard drive and each make a copy. We have the exact same burner, are using the same blanks, and burning from the same rip. His are fine. When I come across a bad disc I get his, copy it and it's fine. The only thing different is the PC. I have a P4 2.6 512 of RAM, a decent little system. I cant for the life of me figure this out. Any Ideas ?

I would suggest downloading DVD Shrink v3.1.7 or the newest version and trying that.

Wii w/update 3.2U
Wii Key 1.9s firmware
3Ghz Intel Cel dual core
Sony DRU-810A DL DVD+/-RW
Nero software
Ritek 4x DVD-R/RiData 2.4X DL DVD+R

First off Download the latest version of DVD Shrink, as some of the older versions have problems.

What media are you burning to, what is your DVD Drive? When you get the blocky pixilatation, where are you playing it thorough, DVD Player, Computer, etc.

The blanks are Teon DVD+R 4X, the burner is IO Magic 8X dual format. I've seen one of the later versions of Shrink and did not care for it. That may be because I haven't used it. If there is a problem with Shrink or the rip why would one copy be bad and the other be OK ? I have a JVC DVD player we watch movies on.

Are the firmwares the same on both drives?

Theoretically using the same model burner/media/files should produce the same results but when you introduce a different PC into the picture you also introduce quite a few different variables as far as installed software/settings etc.

Keep in mind that although your burners are both the same model the quality of the components can and will vary from lot to lot.

I'd suggest installing the latest firmwares on both drives and using quality media such as Ritek G04/05, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim DataLifePlus or Maxell and see if that doesn't help things.

Could you give us the media code from the Teons you're using?

Installed dvd identifier, says I have no drives or something. I downloaded and installed the newest Shrink, ripped 3 movies works fine. They burned OK. I also disabled my anti-virus and screen saver. Anything else ? By the way, thanks for the help.
