this might be a stupid question but whenever i hear about these burners they never go into specifics, i know they can burn twice the amount of data onto a dvd so you dont have to compress it as much or whatever, but what type of media do you need to use?

is it just a normal 4.7 dvd-r? or is it a double sided dvd or what.

Hi jetyi83, To use the full potential of the new DL burners you need DL blank media which at present is hard to find and cost about $15.00 USD each. They can still burn the 4.7gig blanks also. If I can explain this right, the DL layer blanks are exactly that. 2 layers of dye on one side allowing twice the capacity. There were some older blanks listed as 9gig capacity but were flipper discs that could be burned on both sides. These are not DL media. Hope I got it right for you. There 's more to it but thats the basics.

Jerry
