Is it true that most normal DVD buners can be modified by downloading a file to make them into a dual layer burner? Tell me more.

Not really. I believe it can only be done to the NEC 2500 ... flash it to a NEC 2510. But I hear it can ruin your drive or make it not work right.

Why bother when you can get an oem NEC 2510 for $90? And I think you can get the LiteOn for the same price. If you want to know about firmware check here http://tdb.rpc1.com
