DVD X Copy Gold Recognizes A Blank DVD-R Disc as a CD-R

Maybe someone can help me out with this. I have had DVD X Copy Gold for over a year, & have been burning DVD+R discs with no problems (a few small ones, but nothing to scream about). I just bought a 50 pack of DVD-R discs, & when the disc is ready to burn, I receive a message that it cannot burn a DVD to a CD, & a second message stating that GearWorks is reading this blank media as a CD-R. It burns fine after I put in a DVD+R.The puzzling thing is that before 'Burn Now' is pressed, the green light is on & it states 'recordable media'.
I am using a Multi-Format (DVD+R,-R,+RW,-RW) TDK, & this happenned with 2 different -R blank brands that I had.
When I put the same blank-R disc in Roxio's Easy CD/DVD Creator Disc Copier, it reads it correctly as DVD-R.
Greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.
