Can a CD be too small and why red and blue scanlines on Swap Magic?

Hey all, two questions...

I visted the site that shows you how to place the HD Loader on a CD, then install it onto your memory card. Believe me, I am a proud owner of the original HDLoader, but I thought it was a neat idea... but I can't get it to work.. or any CD based games for that matter.

1. Can the data on the disc be too small? I think the HDLoader disc is only a couple megabytes.

2. What in the hell do red and blue scanlines mean in Swap Magic CD? I swap, press X, the screen goes red for a few moments, then the border, instead of turning either blue for good or red for bad, rapidly cycles through both colors, ending up looking like this:

------- < red
------- < blue
------- < red
------- < blue

... you get the idea.

Also, how important is the brand of CD-R you're using? I tried Memorex and Sony, both yield the same results. I burn using nero at 4x speed.

If your PS2 is a version 9 or 10, that couldbe the problem. There are very specific ways that they say to boot a CD-R on a V9/10.

I have a V10 and have never been able to boot a CD-R of any type. I get the same red & blue lines that you describe.

It's weird, why wouldn't it just turn red?

I've never seen it turn red or blue. It always just turns that red and blue stripes. Never gotten it to work for me, even SMD -> refresh TOC w/Breaker Pro -> PS2 CD-R backup.

No luck for me.
