what kind of chip do u have installed? if your chip is a neo2.2 or a neokey (the external chip), you are also going to need boot disks to be able to load games.

Action Replay 2 (PAL market) or Gameshark 2 (NTSC/US market) can usually be found at any game store (like EB) as for Swap Magic, there usually a little harder to come by.
But, what brand of DVD-r's are you using. sometime the ps2 is picky about the media your trying to use. also, if DVD-R's aren't working try DVD+R's instead. Although some of the older ps2 can only read DVD-r's.

for DVD-R media, i found everything works fine (except TDK). i personally use PRINCO as they are cheap, and surpisingly work best.
as for detecting the type of chip, there is no easy method (as far i as know) you'd have to open up the console, find the chip, and then try to identify it agains pics of chips on the net. but if you have an autoboot chip (which is every PS2 chip these days).
Have you made any backups of CD based games? if they boot up find then that would confirm an autoboot chip.
All i can suggest, is try burning at a low speed 1X or 2X, using DVD Decryptor, on PRINCO or any other DVD-R (except TDK) and it should work. does for me.

im not too sure what u mean by
Quote: has a ring at the back
the only thing i can think of is the space on the disk which is burnt, which is usually a darker tone than the unburned burnt part, and where the two meet, it leaves a ring like appearance on the disk. if this is what your refering to, it is OK, since most DVD based PS2 games hardly ever go to the max DVD size 4.7GB.
and as for DVD Decryptor, it works on winxp and win2K. not sure about the win9x family.

i think there is an FAQ somewhere on this site that explains how to make backups using DVD decryptor, try look for that, as it will explain it better than i will. neither the less, the way i do it.
1. Open dvd decryptor and place the ps2-dvd into the drive.
2. click on Mode menu and find ISO --> Read
3. next select where you want to save the image on the HDD
4. for the writing to HDD, set the speed to the maximum
5. Hit the DVD -> HDD button (illustrated by graphic in the programme)
6. once the ripping to HDD is done, take the ps2 original disk out of the drive, and replace it with a blank DVD-R or DVD+R
7. click on the Mode menu again, and this find ISO --> Write
8. Select the image file, which you save on the HDD earlier by clicking on the little folder in the Source column
9. Make sure the Desitination is set to your DVD burner
10. Since you have been having difficulties with burning DVD's, set the speed to 1X or 2X. (2X works for me all the time, but i'd recommend you try 1X first)
11. Make sure Write Mode is set to DVD before you continue
12. Hit the HDD -> DVD icon, and wait for it to burn.
Thats the method i've been using, and the method that has never failed on me.
hope it works for you.
Just 1 question, when you burn DVD's, are you doing a straight copy from DVD to DVD-R or are you burning on the HDD? cause i have found that doing a stragiht copy doesn't work most of the times.

Thanks Gozilla, I am also a complete newbie at PS2's and DVD's. I have a Pioneer AO7 and Clone DVD 1.1.7.1 and a PS2 with a Magic 2.5 built in modchip.
As far as I can asertain from reading your instructions the proceedure for backing up a PS2 and backing up a movie DVD are exactly the same?
Thanks for you help in advance!

Quote: copy ps2 games with DVD Decrypter but when i play it it takes so long to load the game but it works. takes longer then average to load the game
That could be caused by two things,
1. the media you are using is bad
2. your ps2 laser is on it's last legs
and also, what type of media are you writing to, DVD-R or DVD+R? try both, maybe one reads better than the other (unless you've got a V4 and down machine, they can only read +R)
also don't use rewriteable DVD's, as i found they hardly ever work, and when they do, it takes forever to load.

DVD Decryptor is only good for making direct copies of dvd's that are less than 4.7GB.
grab a copy of DVDShrink (avaiablable of this web site). It's a bit difficult to use at first, but almost becomes second nature. if you need more help with dvdshrink, there are plenty of tutorials on this site(afterdawn)
Also, you use DVDShrink to rip the DVD to HDD. the software makes an ISO which is then has to burned with Nero. (and i think the lastest version of DVDShrink automatically loads Nero when its done ripping)

not really, but for 100% no fuss results, a chip is the way to go.
There are other options avialable, like flip-top covers, and slide tools, but these methods require the use of swap disks, and in some cases require up to 3 swaps to start a game.
