Background audio noise on video. HELP!

Hi;

I am new to the forum and I have a problem.

I am capturing vhs video using VirtualDub and tyhe Divx codec. The original video's audio track has a lot of background noise. Compresing the audio after capturing helps a bit but there is still a lot of noise on the final digital video.

What can you guys suggest I do to get rid of the background audio noise?
