how do i see if my video card is loose or if there is a problem w/o opening it ?

If it is loose, you will probably be having problems. If you aren't having any problems, then it is probably good to go. lol

Well, to answer your question, there is no real good way, outside of opening up the case, but you can try pulling on the monitor cable, connected to it, in the back, and if you can move it around, or hear some clunking inside, the vid card is loose.
