Okay so I have an old laptop (fujitsu lifebook) that is dead. I was toying around with it and wondered if it would be possible to turn the monitor into an lcd monitor for a desktop?

I know it is highly unlikely and nearly impossible and blah, blah, blah. Nay sayers need not reply. I want season vets of tinkering to give me their hypotheticals.

Thanks guys,

J. Brian Ewing

If you're not going to help, please dont discourage others from trying :)

Brian:
If you pop out the display connectors and have a look at the pin structure, it should be doable and you should be able to match the DVI connector pins with what you've got.... as for making the transition pretty or powering it, Ive got no idea

Thanks Praetor for the advice and the defense. The power issues seems to be the biggest hurtle. I thought maybe one of you wiz kids might have knocked this one around before. I'm just looking for something to do is all. One of those "Well that's neat" projects.

As for you Ronrice, don't be such a bitter douche. There are a hundred really helpful and smart members of this site and we don't need one person chasing off new people because they are insecure about their own lot in life.

You see this is why this is the only site that I have ever and will ever post questions on. You guys are the best. Thanks a million Dr. Chips.

Unfortunately it looks as though the cost of converting the old laptop monitor to a make-shift desktop is more costly than just buying a superior LCD desktop monitor from a Circuit City or the like.

But now I know that it is possible.
