Speeding up Downloads?

I know this has been covered but the only ones I see are for having a router. I dont have a router and was wondering how to speed up downloads...

I was told that I cant port forward because I have no router. I use Road Runner broadband in Indiana. I am only downloading 2 files at a time with Azureus. I average about 8-10 kb/s. Seems to me if I am paying for cable then I sould be getting more then 10 kb/s. There are plenty of seeds and peers to download from. I have had a few files spike to like 80 kb/s for 30 sec. then drop down to about 8 kb/s. I do most of my downloading from Suprnova.org.

Also how do I figure what my cable speed is able to go up to? I know its 128 upload but I am not sure how fast I can download.

P4 2.8 Gig CPU
1 gig. Ram (pc2700)
70 GIg Hard Drive
64 Meg. Video Card
"Shark Fin" 3com cable modem
RelTek Ethernet card

Either do a speedtest, OR actually check the offical Road Runner's website and find out the advertised speed.

Update: OMFG, Road Runner is by Warner Brothers? That's so fucking COOL! Checked the download speed for you. 1.5Mbps. (That's megabits)
