Hello
I got a modchip put in my ps2 about a year and a half ago and with it i got the person to burn me a couple of back up games which worked fine. I havent burned anything since then as i dont have a dvd burner. The origianl backups i had were on silver cd's which i assume are cd-r's and the new games i got are on purple cd's which i believe are dvd-r. However, when i load the new purple cd's nothing happens. I am using gameshark as my boot disc and at the place where it says to put in the game and push x, nothing happens. Does anyone know what the problem is?

When you swap discs, the system doesn't check the media type again. Since GameShark is a CD, it cannot focus on the DVD disc you put in. That's why SwapMagic discs have a CD and a DVD version. If you watn to play backups via swapping, buy SwapMagic discs.

Buying SwapDiscs is not your only option. You could just as easily buy a modchip. The thing is modchips are harder to install for an amatuer user than it is to use swap discs. Swap Discs with a slide card can be aqquired for 29$ (including shipping within the unites states) from CustomPS2.com.

That is where I bought mine. They were fast too. The order was processed on a Monday I believe and the discs got here on the following Thursday I think.

With swap discs there is a tad bit of "installation" to do. For the slide card, you must remove the front cover to the disc tray. It's actually really easy. There is 1 screw, and after that you can snap it off easily. The screw was annoying for me but got through it. For the fliptop, you must open your system obviously, you must remove the top part of the drive housing and then put on your new top of the case. You run the risk of damaging alot of things doing this, so you must be very careful.

I myself prefer the slide card over the fliptop, others feel the opposite.

Hey, i already have a modchip in my ps2, and i use gameshark to boot up the burned game. it works using the original cd's i got with it but not with the newer dvd's. Even though there is a modchip and i already have gameshark, do i still need to buy another swap disc for booting the dvd?

Like I said before, to swap to a burned DVD the disc you swapped from must have been a valid DVD disc. I do have an idea for you though. You could try putting in a real ps2 dvd game after the gameshark has started. But let the system scan the disc (don't do any EA/slide card swap). So this way it should realize the media type is now DVD. Now do you secret swap (ea/slide card swap) to your burned DVD as you would have normally. Maybe then it will start.

Basically the idea is that when you swap your discs you want it to be looking for a DVD, and not a CD.

If that doesn't work, just go ahead and buy swap magic.
