I am a newbie to all of this stuff and wanted to know if there was a way to make a back up of PS2 games that doesn't involve mod chips or boot disks...
please help

You can make all the backups you want without a modchip or boot disc. However without either of those, you won't be playing them on your PS2.

If you want to, I recommend Swap Magic and the Slide Card. You can get the latest version of swap magic and bundled with a slide card for cheap at CustomPS2.com. That's where I got mine.

If you don't wanna use swap discs or install a modchip, you won't be playing backups.
