Hi, I was just wondering, is it possible to burn any playstation 2 game onto a CD-R. I was previosuly under the impression that they could only be burned onto DVD's. I got backups made for me and thought they were dvd's but not realize they are CD's. I was just wondering if this works with all games and if so, how exactly do you do it.

First you must understand that real playstation 2 games can be on CD or DVD media, or even Dual Layered DVD media. If a game like for example Contra Shattered Soldier is copied, you only need a CD-R as the game was originally on a CD-ROM. Technically though you could burn it on a DVD-R, but that's just silly.

Some games, like Shinobi I suppose, are too big for a CD and are on DVD-ROMs. But Shinobi is I believe 1.2GB. So some people do what's called a DVD-RIP. When you do a DVD-RIP you are taking out or downsampling files till it can fit on a CD-R. These can be very complex/involved/annoying to do.

But then, some games, they are just too large, you can't rip out enough, so there is no chance of putting them on a CD-R.

I would NOT advise doing any DVD-RIPs. Get a DVD burner and make a proper backup. And for Dual Layer games, you may need a DVD burner that is capable of burning DVD-R DLs. They make them now so, it shouldn't be a problem.

I really don't like games to be mutilated, as it often means the person is just ripping off the game anyway, because if you were really backing up your game you would want a 1:1 copy, and not a cheap rip.
