When I bought my Playstation 2 a few years ago, it was already modded by a previous owner. The guy had told me that a DMS4 was installed, but I later discovered (much to my dismay) that that was not the case when I wasn't able to install ToxicOS.
I <3 my PS2, I have a Network Adapter and a 160GB hard drive installed, and I can play any number of games off the hard drive using a HDLoader 0.8c CD.
But I'd still like to find out exactly what type of modchip I have installed in my PS2. Is there any way to do that? I'd strongly prefer not to open up the console at all and I'm certainly not going to disassemble working hardware just to satiate my curiosity, but if there's an easier way to find out which modchip I have, I'd love to know about it.
There's a sticker that came attached to the top of my modded PS2. This is what it says:
Quote:Insert PS2 game in the system and Close the Tray
Hit the <RESET> once, Game will loard.
For PSX game : Power up by Hold the <EJECT>
until the <EJECT> BLUE Light ON.
and Insert Game into the tray and PUSH the tray to Close
For DVD or Sleep Mode: Power up by Hold the <EJECT>
for 3 seconds until the Logo Sound is come out
and insert Movie into the tray and PUSH the tray to Close
I'm hoping that will offer some hints for those more experienced with modchips.
I discovered tonight that turning on the console by holding the Eject button for a few seconds disables the modchip for a single session. After temporarily disabling the modchip, I was able to load a patched backup using ESR and play it online.
So while I'm still curious, my motivation for finding out is now all but gone. Maybe I'll open it up one of these days, but for now I think I'll leave it alone (especially since I now have Free MC Boot working now).
