Hello,
I own PS2 "Fat" with ModBo chip on it. A few days ago it stopped reading some types of discs. It has no problem with DVD Movies and Games on DVDs, but it won't read games on CDs and also DivX movies from the SMS player both from CDs and DVDs. Does anybody have any idea what could be the problem?
Thanks.

Your laser may be going. You could try cleaning the laser first and see if that helps.

I opened it and cleaned the laser but the wheel for adjusting the laser seem to be nonexistent. Any ideas?

What version is your PS2?

It is most likely like pictured in this post

http://www.eurasia.nu/wiki/index.php?pag...eplacementGuide

Scroll down to bottom to where it says Cog wheel adjustment

Unless you have a V9, there are then 2 cog wheels.

Damn. That seems to be the case (SCPH-50000). Unfortunately I can't find any tutorial on this model. I've read that cleaning the laser underneath the main lens usually fixes the problem the disassembly of the lens cover also differs from all the other versions.

The ps2 v9 cog wheels are pictured in the top of this thread

VERSION 9/10
The big difference with V9/10 is that there are clips on the CD assembly that you need to undo. Simply use a knife or a flat headed screwdriver to pry them lose. It takes a little pressure and the clips will pop lose.

Version 9/10 have a metal housing that sits atop of 2 white spindles. You can adjust the white spindles in the same way you adjust them in other versions, they only appear different due to the location and due to the fact that there are 2 of them instead of one.
