Hello. I'm brand new to the PS2 scene, but have been able to mod my PSP successfully. I've also opened up a ton of game systems and am able to easily manipulate the parts without breaking them. (I can solder, but I have never done it on a game system before) I checked the back of my ps2 and I have either a V7 or V8, which should be compatible with the DMS4 EZI.
I'm not sure whether I should shell out the extra 10 bucks for the pro version though. How will this really help me? I've also heard of people breaking their systems when installing solderless modchips, will this be a problem?
I've read through the installation manuals for the chip and they seem fairly straightforward. (Just unsure about how to cut one of the chips)

I am planning to use the chip just for DVD/CD backups without installing a Hard Drive.
I was also thinking about running some homebrew emulators or video players if possible... Could I run homebrew off through a usb extension on the PS2?

Anyways. Thanks for reading, and any help would be appreciated.

BTW- What would be the cheapest working writable DVD discs to use?
