What modchip or modded method do you have. Not all modchips are compatible with armax.
What version PS2 slim do you have?

Ok so you have your sensors blocked. But you don't have a method of playing backups then?
Is your Action replay retail?
If yes - then you can't play backups using it unless you follow the method in this thread and use cogswap.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/337567
If you have swap magic though, you can use the armax that I have in my profile under 'My Folder' that is designed to work with Swap Magic and backups.

The only Armax that works on a slim is the older versions with the 'media player'
There is a thread on this forum about using that Armax to play backups on a slim, or you could use it to install fmcb 1.8

Hi smokyrain, i have the really similar problem as clonekid1. my ps2 is a PAL SCPH - 75002 slim model with SwapMagic Version 3.8 installed. i have bought my Action Replay Max Revo recently. but the ARM couldn't run the backup game or even the game that is not in PAL version. i have search your profile and i couldn't find the ARM you have mention above, could you please tell me where it is or give me the link to download it, sorry to bothering you and thank you very much^_^

I have armax evo with PAL codes - link
My Folder - link
password is - windrider
The instructions on how to use Armax evo for Swap Magic - its easy just to copy/paste to Notepad and print it out for the first time of use.
DVD BACKUPS:
1) Boot your PS2 with SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc
2) Using EJECT EXPLOIT insert AR MAX EVO DVD and hit X
3) Make sure you scroll down on the Black and White screen to the
option entitled RESET IOP. Change this to always. Hit X to run
DVDLOADER
4) At the DVDLOADER screen hit X and you will have a menu. Select
AR MAX and hit X to load AR MAX EVO
5) Enter Expert Mode to find your desired codes and hit START
6) At this point AR MAX EVO Will prompt you to eject and insert game
Disc - DO NOT EJECT, just hit start game with codes then X and wait for
the Black and White screen to load. Dont worry about the IOP option just
hit X and let DVDLOADER load up.
6) To Stop your disc from spinning in the disc tray you will need to hit
the Triangle button.
7) The Screen will lose a few words and and this is when you will need to
use whatever EJECT EXPLOIT you use to insert the SWAP MAGIC DVD Disc
8) Now hit Triangle once again and the disc will start to spin and the
screen will reload. Now hit the X Button.
9) a red screen should come up prompting you to swap dvd with EA method,
Don't worry as all you need to do is use your EJECT EXPLOIT and insert the
DVD game backup you want to run with codes. HIT X
VOILA!!
You are now running your DVD BACKUP game with codes from a BACKUP AR MAX.
CD BACKUPS:

I have never had that problem. Not sure why that happens.
Did you try to load it again after that. I do know the first time it loads, it takes some time, but after that its quicker.
I have tested both discs - one with PAL codes and the one with NTSC codes.

There is an older PAL Armax for Swap Magic in this thread you could try and see if you have same problem.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/520108
This version wouldn't have the updated codes like mine does, but just too see if shows up propely on your screen.
I don't know if its a setting on our TV or the armax.

i have figured out the problem, as my PS2 and games are all in PAL version, in the 4th and 6th step, i have to press the square button to change the mode into PAL to make the screen function properly, otherwise the screen won't show it's buttom part.
VOILA!!!!!^_^
