Hello All!

I want to apologize for being "that guy" but I have spent the last week or so reading the forums and can't seem to find what I am looking for. So I am turning to you for help.

I am relatively new to PS2 softmodding. I have a PS2-Slim SCPH-75001 and I have a MAXTOR 80GB HDD that is reading / writing perfectly with Winhiip. I have several, LEGAL, PS2 games that I would like to play off of the HDD. I have, through winhiip been able to copy the game images over to the hard drive and have verified they are there. My problem comes with PLAYBACK of the games. Here are my questions... Please bear with me, and thank you in advance for you help :)

1) How do I get the PS2 to 'recognize' there is an HDD attached through the USB port? (btw I am using an external USB to IDE 3.5" enclosure)

2) Is there a way to get the PS2 to recognize the HDD WITHOUT purchasing a software program like SwapMagic or HDLoader / HLA? If so, can someone point me in the right direction.

3)I have several memory cards available as well as spare USB flash drives, so having to use either of these for launching the HDD recognition is NOT an issue. I would PREFER to turn the damned thing on and have it goto the boot screen / HDD automatically, but if I have to wait 20-30 seconds or more for a MC I'm okay with that as well. Is this possible? Again... a little push in the right direction if possible.

My sole intent is to copy my games over to the HDD so that both me AND my 9 year old can play without having to worry about damaging the discs... Learned all to well the hard way with my XBOX games and his hands... I have no interest in copying or playing back-up CD's / DVD's.... Don't know if this helps or limits my options even further...

Again, I sincerely appreciate your time and look forward to hearing your responses!

Thanks,

BIGLDH

You have to softmod your ps2 before it will recognise any USB memory devices. I think your ps2 is a slim, so you only have a couple of options.
1. You can buy a copy of swapmagic.
2. You can buy a copy of Action Replay MAX. The version that has Max Media Player. (EVO)
3. You can find someone that has a fat ps2 and softmod your memory card on their system.

Here is a link with all of the ways to softmod your ps2 LINK.
(click on the installation tab)
