Hello guys,
I really need help softmodding my PS2. Even though its the end of the PS2 era, I still really want to do this, and spent a lot of time hunting for the materials from friends and game stores.
I finally have;
-One Ps1 Game (Syphon Filter)
-Offical PS2 Memory Card
-Network Adapter
-20 GB HD (I forget the name of the top of my head, but I looked up the compatibility and it said it worked)
-Codebreaker (8.2)
http://hdadvance.digitalsedative.com/
Using this tutorial, I attempted to install HD Loader, but to no avail. I went to my friend's place and used his modded PS2 to attempt to boot the exploit onto my PS2 Memory card. Using the BIOS that I burned onto the CDR, I attempted to start the game from Codebreaker with this CDR, but again, this did not work. Perhaps I need to reburn the BIOS... Could someone please help me though? I don't mean to whine, but I've been waiting for this for a really, really, long time.
Thank you in advanced,
Spongchao

You can just install fmcb 1.8 to your memory card
http://sksapps.com/index.php?page=fmcb.html
Check under Guides for added info, plus use the INSTALLATION guide
All the info you need with many methods of installing are there in that link.

Awesome! Thanks for the speedy reply! However, after I install FreeMcBoot, is it possible for me to install HDLoader afterwards, and if so, then how? In any case, I'm going to attempt this with a 512 MB USB.

hi
You can install HDLOADER 8c at the same time
If you download the noobie package in this guide - link
It has it included in the INSTALLATION package
If you don't like the esr gui r9b, then you can go to psx-scene forums and download the esr direct r9b
Its entirely up too.
The guides explain what are the recommended apps to install along with fmcb.

There are no words to express how angry I am right now. Today, when I tried to boot up Codebreaker, I got a D(isc)R(ead) E(rror). After taking out the USB (I was midway in the Codebreaker Method) and memory card, this still didn't work. Other games work, so I seriously doubt its the PS2 (I can still run SVR 2008, Marvel Nemesis, etc). Is there any way to fix this? DAMN IT I WAS SO CLOSE!
=================================================
Thank you very much for the advanced help you've been providing, smokyrain, is there a karma system or something on this board? Anyways, thank you.

Ok that sux. You can always get your friend with his modded PS2 to do a 'MULTI INSTALL' OF fmcb 1.8 on your memory card.
Then just bring it home and it will work on your PS2.
Or just keep trying the codebreaker disc.

Awesome, I got it to work! Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, for future reference to everyone, I got the tape method to make this disc work correctly. Simply google 'tape method ps2 disc' or something to find out. I also used this trick on my copy of Ford Racing 3 and it worked =D
Last question, I hope. How do I patch the ESR.elf file, as the website says, it requires it to be patched. Take your time responding to this question, as I am currently using HD Loader, but the HD only has 16gb.

Edit: Sorry for the double-post. I am having trouble HD Loader as well. As soon as I started HD Loader for the first time, it detected the HD, formatted it, and I began to copy it, and upon copying it, it was successful. However, when I tried to run it, it just gives me a black screen. And yeah, when I browse to my memory card, there's no HD Loader prog installed, but yet, it can still start up via Free McBoot.
EDIT: Oh crap, I found the small edit button =(

Oh man, more hardware? Thank you for the first part though,it will come in handy for later.Awwwww....please, I'm Indian lol, is there any simple way to get HDLoader working though? I made it this far, was there something that was supposed to be on the Memory card that indicates that HDLoader was installed? I waited all this time, copied the game, and then run it and get a black screen =/
(The hardware I lack is the connector)

If your friend had all the files on the USB when you installed fmcb 1.8
It would have looked like below

No, I should have been more clear. I did it myself, and repaired the disc for Codebreaker. However, I don't know if it means to delete one of the HD Loader files on here;

Ok I gotcha
I see then you have installed 2 hdloader's then, but the only one that will show up in the Sony Browser is the HDLOADER.ELF
The HDL_V0.8C.ELF, should have installed, but will only show up in your BOOT Folder on mc0, if it installed.
If it didn't install, you could rename it too HDLOADER.ELF and replace the one in the BOOT folder on mc0

Oh my bad, I meant to respond sooner. Also, it did work, its just that Star Wars BFII, one of the greatest games ever made, doesn't work when you copy it! Other games work though so....its not too bad. You can run burned PS2 games in HDLoader and then copy them, right? Anyways, thanks for the help man.
