Hi everyone, I just lost myself on the web trying to find the answer of my problem and found this forum. Hope I can get a solution.
Here the issue :
I have a PS2 Slim (SCPH-90006 CB) with a Matrix Infinity 1.93. The very few dvd games I burned, just for try, before work perfectly, I used Sony Dvd-R at 6X and well, I didn't had any problem, they're all working great.
Then I decided to start serious things, bought a new LG GP08LU30 and two nice boxes of Verbatim CD-R "Lightscribe" (made in Taiwan).
Well, I was an happy man ! So as I planned, i started to burn a first PS2 CD-R game (NBA Street), put it in the Slim and it worked great ! Then I decided to use the Lighscribe system and put the label on the cd. After that I repeated the same things, with 4 other Cd-r games and whatever the order I was working (Lightscribe first, Burn second and then testing), Games were Working !
Then I took the first one again, to play, and...not working anymore O_o'. The PS2 laser is searching, noise appears ( something knocking, sound like the laser is messing up ) and well, the PS2 can't find the disk.
So I tried the others games again, Same result. So my first tough was " Maybe the Lightscribe is ruining it ! So I started again, Burned one Cd-r (at 10x like the others), No Lightscribe and same result. When I put the game the first time inside the PS2, It work, and I can play without any probleme. When I stop it, End of the story, The games won't work anymore, The laser, or the PS2 can't find the Cd. The PS2 have only 2 months and is working great, read DVD-R perfectly.
So if anybody heard about the same story and know why it happen, that would be great to share it. I followed all the good advices about Ps2 copy I found on internet, Use Verbatim, but still, I can't figure out why it work the first time and then no.
Thanks a lot !

All right,
I spent the day flying over Internet forums, reading thousand posts about disc errors, Ps2 problems and wow...so many things !!!
Anyway, I almost gave up when I saw a page talking about the diagnosis mode, so well, I tried and it works !!!
Basically, you just turn on your PS2 without Cd, go to "version" (Triangle), Go up to "Console", press triangle, then Diagnosis (press X) and turn it ON. Then back on the first page, put the cd inside the console without turning it off and... amazing it work ! I've tried with all the Cd-r i had problem with and I don't have problem anymore.
I'm definitely not saying that the diagnosis mode will fix every Disc problems but if you experience the same, or kind of issue i had, just have a try, that's very simple.
Well, I obviously fixed my problem alone, sorry for the topic, maybe it will help some peoples later.
See you

I have a slim PS2 (model SCPH-79001) and I was wondering do I have to install a modchip in my system to do this or can I pull of this trick without chipping my system.

You need a mod chip or software loader to play your backups games. It seems NONE of them are bullet proof.
I have always been told Diagnosis was for DVD. This is very interesting. Thank you.
