What is Pathplayer set to?
Are you getting an error?
Please include as many specifics as you can. Simply stating that you're "having troubles" doesn't give us much to go on.

Trying to backup the main movie. Pathplayer is set to "enable when necessary". (region 1)
Title 1 is auto selected at 1:52:13.
I am getting an "Error while reading" message at about 99.8% done. Clicking ignore for each message does no good.
The disk itself looks fine.
Installation of DVDFAB 6.2.0.5 did not help

Darned if you aren't right about Shrink alone.
Maybe the keyword is "seems" as I haven't watched the backup.
TY for the heads up.

shrink works but in full disc mode the main movie includes 4 titles.... so you end up with 50% compression. think 1 is the right one? maybe ill reauthor with just title 1

Why not just use VobBlanker to blank out the unnecessary files? In DVD Shrink I would set the output size to Dual Layer or custom and create a Folder, then open in VobBlanker and find the right title, blank out the others and then Open back up in DVD Shrink. Therefore you would have a full movie rather than just the Main Title. I know, a lot of work. That is if you want more than just the Main Title. So no more 50% Compression.

Ideal dvd copy already has the fix, I copied the full movie no problem with just the trial version on the new update.

I used an older version of DVDfab 5.2.2.6 and it decoded it with no problem and then used DVD shrink.

In AnyDVD, had to right click on AnyDVD Icon and save video to Hard Drive. Haven't yet tried to blank out titles.

I just tried DVDFAB 6.2.1.5 Beta and it also failed to work. How do I find one of the older versions that was mentioned earlier?

Thx mjcrazy for that post regarding older dvdfab. The version I used was 5.2.3.0 and worked without a hitch.
I tried Ideal DVD Copy and I did get a copy, but the dvd menu was missing as well as the opening scenes and first chapter. I may have done something wrong with the settings since it was my first time using that program.

Dvdfab 5232 also works but could only backup movie only as file was too large otherwise. Makes me wonder why latest version of Dvdfab will not work but older ones seem to rip this ok. Any ideas?

I'm using DVD Shrink 3.2 and it won't compress it enough, full disc compresses to 6,659 but I re-author it to just back up the movie and it only compresses it to 4,760. It won't let me lower the custom ratio lower than 99.2%, what's the trick here? Thanks.

I watched the movie and the subtitles are always working wether for humans or for aliens. 2 types of subtitles, one type is yellow(main), and the other is white, which is second caption option when you go to the movie settings. I always leave ALL(english) captions checked, and ALL(english)audio as well.

DVDFAB users should be aware that a beta (6.2.1.6) was released this morning which address the problem that caused the reading error when copying "District 9.

Everyone,
Thanks for the information. I could not rip District 9 with any versions of DVDFab. However, I was able to copy the main movie using DVD Shrink 3.2. I was also able to rip the entire DVD to my HDD using AnyDVD.
What is better AnyDVD ot DVDFab ?
If I buy only 1, then which one should I buy?
I am leaning towards AnyDVD.

Get the package deal from slysoft if you can afford it as well as getting dvdfab i've found it to be advantageous to get both softwares in any case anydvd is not much good without clonedvd2 as that does the editing so in that regard dvdfab would be my first choice as it does the lot, well most times it works except as like mentioned in this thread when it needs an update,i use fab the most as it's similar to dvdshrink & there's no need to shag about with two separate programs
slysoft package deal if they still do it:
clonecd
clonedvd2
clonedvdmobile
anydvd

I am facing the same dilemma.
I think anydvd and clonedvd is the better choice if you are like me and buy those Disney DVDs where the kids can tear them up in just a day or so, or in this case, where I bought several DVD's for the family this Christmas and there were problems copying a couple of movies (I make copies immediately after purchase and store the original).
On the other hand, dvdfab is more convenient and less expensive, but is just a tad slow to get out an update. They get a few points in their favor because I used their free program for a year and it was very good (note: they have changed their policies and don't update the free program for months at a time now).

I had the same problem with District 9 and downloaded DVD Fab 5.2.2.6 which is an earlier release. Just google it and you can find a download site. So thank you to whomever solved the problem and for passing it on to us neophytes. The thought crossed my mind that this may be a solution, but with so many DVD Fab updates, it would be just too time-consuming to download and test them one by one.
Tech note: After downloading and installing the software DVD Fab will ask you if you want it to search to see if you have the most current update. DO NOT check the OK Box, just close it out, otherwise you will have the latest version of the software, which will not decode the file. By the way, I used Main Movie for less compression and Title 1 is the correct selection.
