hello,

I have been having this problem for quite sometime. Ended up wasting 20 disks so far. This gets sorted out when I re-install the OS (WIN XP Home) and all other programs. But that sounds ridiculous. The error log is as follows :

Can someone help ?

Nero 7 or 8 do not auto-burn with DVD Shrink, even if you try to interface it with Nero 6.3.1.4

after you run your file using Shrink; Close it and then Open Nero 7 (Burn Room) to burn your file manually.

Good luck !

hi :)
one other thing

Physical memory : 959MB (982380kB)

close more applications to free up more memory, you're in virtual memory territory
which means your hard disc will be 'swapping', therefore interfering with the burn.
you really need at least 256Mb of free memory

Shrink DOES work with Nero 7 ultra... but not 8.

Of course you can always use Shrink to compress the files and some other software to burn them to disk.

Hello, I have had Windows XP with DVD Shrink, Nero 6, and AnyDVD working great for years and recently got a a virus so bad that I had to wipe the machine clean and start over. So, since I heard great things about Windows 7, I decided to install it. Well, DVD shrink and AnyDVD work fine but it appears that Nero 6 does not work on Windows 7? Please help me with this delima because I am not sure what to do? I have read other posts that the consesus is that moving to Nero 7, 8, or 9 will not solve my problem. Below is my log file. I have tried many things like chaging the nero.exe compatibility to run in Windows XP Server Pack 3 and that did not seem to do anything. Any help would be much appreciated:

Well, I hope everyone had a merry christmas...I know it is the hollidays and everyone is busy, but I was hoping someone would be able to help me out on my burn error in the above post. I do not know what to do or what to try to fix it. Honestly, Creaky you helped me out a few years back when I had a Nero Burn error by reading my log and telling me that I had to revert back to an older Nero version (Nero-6.6.0.18), so I was happy to see you were still on this site as a moderator and was hoping you would be my savior again?

Merry Christmas; just having a look thru the logfile now and i'll edit this post with anything i find. Cor, just checked, it's been 3 years since i helped you before, doesn't time fly :)

There's a thread recently about Windows 7 and Nero 6.x, i'll try and find that; basically i personally have no problems with Nero 6 under Win7 but other people do, and i don't have to mess with compatibility whereas other people do...
Back shortly...

edit- here's the Win7/Nero 6.x link ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-156/...ndows_7-808986/

edit- as to the logfile ~

Recorder: <_NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A> Version: 104C
104C seems to still be the latest firmware for the 3530A ~ http://www.firmwarehq.com/NEC/ND-3530A/files.html ~ though it's dated 2005, however the burner can happily recognise those MCC003 discs, see next paragraph

Quote:
Recorder: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: MCC 03 - RG20
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193
The firmware is happily recognising your MCC003 discs

Quote:
Burn process started at 16x (22,160 KB/s)
There's not a lot to go on in the logfile, other than you, or more likely DVD Shrink is trying to burn those (8x) discs at 16x

That's the only error showing, can only guess that the burner is having a benny because it can't burn those 8x discs at 16x

Your burner can do 16x on -R discs according to this ~ http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Reviews/...ArticleId=13809 but as i say, the MCC003 are only 8x so try burning them at 8x, hopefully that's all you need to do as i can't see anything else wrong in the logfile.

tigger27, you should of started your own thread, but......this is what I see:

Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
and
Unable to recover TOC

The burn failed because it's unable to recognize, write to, and/or read to/from the media you're using. The log doesn't show the media specific field, but if it did, I'm sure it would be blank.

Other observations that need fixing and would help:

1)Recorder: <PHILIPS DVD+-RW SDVD8441>Version: PA48

Your burner's firmware is a bit old and should be updated, there's the update javascript:%20validateFileOS('Windows%20XP',%20'Windows%20',%20'ftp://esupport:vImvF88@ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_support/drivers/win_xp/portable/mx6000/PhilipsPA49.exe',false,%20true,%20'');

2) CdRomPeripheral : PHILIPS DVD+-RW SDVD8441 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off

Enable DMA for the burner.

You could also try using different media

Newer firmware PA49, dated March 2006 ~ http://www.firmwarehq.com/Philips/SDVD8441/files.html - don't know if that'll help your burner recognise the blank discs you're trying to use

The burner can determine that you're trying to use a +R disc.....

(Medium in drive: unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R DL.)
...however the burner's firmware can't actually properly recognise the disc. As i say there's a newer firmware out but don't know whether even that is too old to recognise those discs. You either have to use older discs (that the firmware can recognise) or buy a new burner.

Thanks for your response Creaky...sorry for my tardy response, I have been out of town for work and just got back...anyways, I lowered the burn rate and that still did not fix my issue. I checked out the link you gave me for the thread recently about Windows 7 and Nero 6.x. After reading that, I unistalled anydvd, dvdshrink, and nero. Then installed anydvd, shrink and then nero (in that order). And to no avail, I still had the same outcome. I tried to just burn a CD with 1 mp3 file and that fails too. Below is log file for the failed buring CD and DVD. Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this? It seems that the error "Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)" is what is common in both the DVD and CD burn error logs. I googled this error but did not find much. Any help is much appreciated, cheers.

@Zylo

I believe I see what your problem might be.

HA-Status 0x10 (0x0A, SCSI_HASTAT_REQUEST_SENSE_FAILED)
This error condition could mean that there's a problem with the way your drives are being recognized by the OS.

Here is a snapshot of your log where I believe nero is first indicating something is wrong.

Recorder: <_NEC DVD+-RW ND-3530A> Version: 104C - HA 0 TA 1 - 6.6.0.18
Adapter driver: <> HA 0
Drive buffer : 2048kB
Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
CD-ROM: <SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615 >Version: FDS1 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18
Adapter driver: <> HA 0

ATAPI (Advanced Technology Attachment Packet Interface) is a standard interface used to connect components such as CD/DVD drives (and writers) and hard disk drives (HDDs) to a motherboard inside a computer to interact with the other components and operating system.

The OS doesn't seem to be properly detecting your Sony and NEC drives, the system drivers for those devices aren't present or corrupted.

Here's a snapshot from Tigger27's log which shows his OS recognizes his drive and installed the correct/functional drivers for it.

Recorder: <PHILIPS DVD+-RW SDVD8441>Version: PA48 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18
Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1
Drive buffer : 2048kB
Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI

I believe that the solution should be as simple as uninstalling the IDE channel that the drives are connected to and reboot the system. The drives should be re-detected on boot-up and correctly reinstalled.

I would first uninstall nero (using nero's removal tool), reboot, uninstall the IDE channel, reboot, reinstall nero, retry burning a dvd.

(The 'Connected to MMC as unknown drive' bit is just because my LG H66N's (SATA hence why DMA is off on mine) burners are newer than my Nero ie they're only generically recognised. No problems over the last two years of burning though.)

Why do people even bother with nero? .. imgburn is free.. and uses the normal windoze atapi layer instead of trying to replace it.

I thought i'd suggested that further up the thread; maybe not, i get involved in so many threads that i don't know which way is up sometimes.
What i will do is add my usual disclaimer. I still have Nero purely as imgburn can't do multiple concurrent burns, but for most burning i do that doesn't require multiple concurrent burns i use imgburn.

I'm sure imgburn could be modded to open 2 to 200 concurrent burns.. now where is that source code?.. it's probably only a flick of a couple of switches somewhere.

Wonder if our pal Lightnin has a valid reason for not doing so.. very likely actually.. something like.. "it causes bus clogging and poor burns" or something like that.

Yeah i wish Lightning UK would magic up a bit of code for concurrent burns, he could wipe out Nero overnight.

Argh, now that has me confused :), i thought DMA had nothing to do with SATA.... (i know USB has nothing to do with DMA, but SATA, hmmm...).

..i'm rusty with DMA, it's probably just that my SATA burners are on a cheapy no-name controller card. All i know is that they burn 8x fine, that'll do for me, it'll save me reading up on the subject :)

edit- hang on, i completely overlooked the fact that the 6 internal Western Digital drives are SATA, and DMA is on for those.
