DVD Shrink and ISO file

I backed up a DVD using Decrypter and have an ISO file that is 7+GB large. I want to put it onto a 4.7GB DVD but I obviously need to shrink it.
When I open Shrink 3.2 it doesn't let me choose the ISO file to shrink. The folder that contains the ISO files doesn't open when I try to choose ot from Shrink.
How can I shrink that ISO file to fit on one disc?

DVD Shrink is looking for a mounted ISO (e.g. a disk in a drive such as the original DVD) or VOB files (the constituent parts of the ISO). You'll need to either re-decrypt and alter the save settings to create a file full of VOBs or if you have demon tools or some such other program you can mount the ISO image you have already and then shrink that.

No it's not, Shrink can open ISOs without mounting them first by using File > Open Disc Image (CTRL-I).

No....is not working the way you say.....I already try !
What it happen is that when you Rip a DVD Movie (Original or not) using DVD Decrypter "ONLY" it create a "Very Simple File" Call it: "IFO I" and is not an ISO yet.

I don't know what the heck you are doing but if you use DVD Decrypter in ISO Read Mode you'll end up with one ISO file (of approx. 7 GB as you mentionend in your original post) on your HDD which can be openend in Shrink with CTRL-I. If not, you're either doing it wrong or there's some copy protection DVDD can't handle which is pretty much any used on recent DVDs.

I undertand you if you are using the RipIt4me "process" as a link of DVD Decrypter and Shrink, etc.....You are playing with a ISO file the whole time.
But Just try to use DVD Decrypter "ONLY" as a Ripper.....then try to use DVD Shrink to Re-Autor, etc.....then burn it !!!
Just for fun "try it and see"......

Everybody knows if you use DVD Decrypter as a reader of couse will read a ISO...no problem.
But If you use DVD Decrypter as a Ripper the History is diff.
DVD Decrypter is a Ripper and a Burner.....
DVD Shrink is a Ripper and a Transcoder....
CloneDVD2 is a Transcoder and a Burner.....etc.

I got it to work when I did File->Open Disc Image. Shrink recognized the files and it was a piece of cake from then on.
I am not too familiar with this whole process and I can now see that I should have started with DVD Shrink then used Decrypter.

I also find another way to do it:
Open DVD Shrink > "Re-Autor" > local Disc (C:) > Doubble Click the right File > Compression Settings > Doubble Click the File Again (and File open as an ISO "now") > Doubble Click the right "Title Angle", etc...... and is ready to Rambo !!!
For one reason or another around 2 weeks ago I try it this way with out be able to do it......and now is just so easy.
You just did it the right way:
DVD Decrypter (Rip) > DVD Shrink (Compress, etc.) > DVD Decrypter (Burn).

I posted this worded differently elsewhere but I have made myself a litle clearer I hope... :)
Well I made a big discovery... Perhaps for myself, but I think there is going to be quite a lot of sighs of relief...
I am still running WinXP and I have no intention of going anywhere else with windows. I have been using a computer since 1995 and I have had more headaches to solve than I have ever read about on the internet... LOL
I have been using DVD Shrink for ages and as we all know, there will not be any further development of it, and neither is there any need. It is the simplest and fastest most friendly interface of any shrink program.... and free... (of charge). DVD Shrink shrinks the movie file from the original DVD to your hard drive as an ISO or a hard drive folder. You choose. DVD Shrink is a "transcoder". It does not decrypt. Have a decrypting program running in the background such as ANYDVD..
There are programs that rip and decrypt but don't shrink. It is necessary to either decrypt in the ripping process using a "rip and decrypt" program, (saving it as an ISO on the hard drive), or use something like DVD Shrink, to rip and shrink, while a decryption program removes the encryption in the background in the process.
Some programs decrypt badly or don't at all, and you wonder why your burned DVD doesn't work - or wont burn in the first place because the ISO seems to be decrypted but is not shrunk. DVD Shrink will not shrink an ISO which is on your HD but will work on a hard disk folder containing vobs etc. In other words, saving a rip as AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS (a Hard Disk Folder) enables you to use DVD Shrink on it as files and then saving it again as an ISO.
There is "ANY DVD SHRINK" which you can pay for after 3 uses. I am particularly talking about NOT PAYING THROUGH THE NOSE for the privilege of having an ISO of your favourite movies or a backup DVD. I have always been one for seeking out free (no cost) software as I am just not made of money like everyone else seems to be. If I had to pay for all the software I fancied I'd be doing nothing else in my life.
Due to the savage kick back by the industry to protect their fortunes, inscription has become gross. Scrambling is what I have found to be the latest. Very recent DVDs do not decrypt unless you have the latest. The mob that has the latest is ANYDVD. (Bless the little Roos) and so I finally coughed up and paid for the latest ANYDVD. I get 2 years of updates and no more hassles..... So I thought.
Suddenly DVDshrink stops working. I read all about it on the internet. So many are pulling out their hair trying to solve the problems they are having wih DVD Shrink.
Well today I finally solved it. I had reinstalled WinXP and forgot my usual setup actions over and beyond the call of duty. You have to develop your own list of favourite ones.
So many of you are using WinXP and are getting the MS updates like me. Others are into Vista and now Windows 7. Guess what? The blighters are dropping out bits of technology gradually, and before I am dead you will all be either toeing the line with Microsoft and putting up with the computers and software they expect you to be using and paying for - or you will be getting a damn sight smarter and hanging onto WHAT WORKS TODAY.
I was really pissed about DVD Shrink not working. It wouldn't even start up. I reinstalled, cleaned out the registry, reinstalled, ran checkdisk, rebooted reinstalled windows again, read all the blah blah on the internet.... and yelled at my missus... and the bloomin' thing just laughed at me. (The program that is.) But I left it installed and thought I would solve it sooner or later. And I did.
They don't tell you ANYWHERE... that DVDShink requires files in vbrun60sp5.exe to work.
Have fun now, and forget all the crap suggestions and misleading steps you have been told.
Remember.. It's simple. ANYDVD running in the background, DVD Shrink v 3.2 to rip and shrink resulting in a shrunk ISO that is thus decripted. Burn to a minus blank DVD-R or DVD-RW with Ashampoo Burning Studio (V6 is free) and because windows doesn't have it included now, install the vbrun60sp5.exe on all systems before you start.

Everybody do what it as to do to get the job done.
1.-One Easy way to Start is having all kinds of Rippers Programs as a Favorites.
2.-Have 3 or 4 Burners with diff. Optical Drives, since all of them are unique and is the mayor problem to get the Job done. That's why some people have a hard time to rip DVD's. 'cos we all have diff. PC's with Diff. Optical drives.
3.-Keep your PC. in good Shape and ready for War !
Now in the Future....wherever works Today.....will not gonna work tomorrow.
We should not be worry about to far into the Future or the Past already gone. Just deal with Today and have fun....Life is more simple that backing-up Movies.

i haven't verified what you posted with that vbrun file, however the reason for my reply is that i've always been against Auto Updates since XP came out. I don't keep up with what is or isn't happening in and around the updates, i simply refuse to allow them on any of my machines, and i do the same with Win7.

Most of my kit will be staying on XP for years to come, and when stuff no longer works due to it being force-unsupported outside of my control, it'll get replaced with linux. Simples :)
Of course i use linux as well, have been for many years, i just like the ease of doing things under XP and Win7 too.

I don't use Shrink that much anymore but the last time I used it I had NO issues... I don't do AUTO UPDATES and haven't in about 4-5 years... I don't believe in them and always want to see what those M$ fools are trying to UPDATE me with. lol. I have all the progies I use with AUTO UPDATE OFF!!! Just my paranoia I guess. ;)

vbrun60sp5.exe does not seem to be on my computer, yet files that are supposed to be installed by it are. msvbvm50.dll and msvbvm60.dll are, both located in C:\WINDOWS\system32. msvbvm60.dll is also located in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. Don't know if that helps anyone, but Creaky asked, and this is everything I found!
I used to use Auto Updates, but no longer do. I used DVD Shrink just this morning, and it's working fine with RI4M!

Russ, that exe file is the file you download, it's just the installer file.
Am just trying to see if the Visual Basic runtime is relevant to Shrink or not.
Plus am not out to dismiss diarbe's theory, just want to see if it's correct or not.

Reminds me of when I updated IE7 → IE8. Which at the time didn't run very well on XP at all LOL! But once installed, dvd shrink would encounter errors. I believe the main problem was reauthor mode. When one would click on it, shrink would crash. Gotta love M$ updates LOL!
Wouldn't surprise me if companies like Fox, Lionsgate, Sony, etc pay M$ for updates like that...

One reason why i'll ALWAYS have an offline XP machine. I love that little bugger LOL! That particular computer has been running for a few months now without even a hiccup. The internet is hazardous to your computers health ROFL!

Microsoft is Hazardous to your computers health! LOL!! They can be very vindictive if you don't accept their upgrades! That's why I have them turned off, and hide the Red icon!

Well.....guess I will be one of the few to admit having my automatic updates turned on (using XP SP3 MCE) and have not encountered any problems using dvd shrink. I also had no problem when I upgraded from IE7 to IE8, tho I only use it a few times when I really have to, as I mainly use Opera and use FF on occasion.
As for vista, I have vista home premium installed on my laptop, and dvd shrink is one of the many programs I have running in compatability mode. Again, it runs with no problems.
I also have automatic updates enabled, updated from IE7 to IE8 with no problems, and again use it once in a while, while mainly using Opera and FF some.

vbrun60sp5.exe cannot be found with search option on my XP machine which has not had any type of update since SP2. M$ is not even allowed to tell me there is an update. I seldom use Shrink, but I just ran a quick SL commercial disc thru it, in less than 5 min, and it worked fine; outputting an ISO file which I didn't burn. Shrink removed the DRMs also by it's lonesome.AnyDVD disabled!
EDIT:
@diarbe you are incorrect, Shrink will remove encryptions from the older movies but will not do the newer ones. Since anydvd is usually active when I use Shrink-seldom-I get no conflict between the two.

Checked the 10 files in the 2 boxes in your link. I have all 6 in top box but only the first file in second box. They appear in 3 places C:\i386,WINDOWS\system32,WINDOWS\software
