.mkv to AVCHD or DivX

Want to convert .mkv to play on Panasonic DMP-BD55. Which one would give me better picture/audio quality, AVCHD or DivX, and if so, what program is the best now for doing it. I know there have been guides released before, but I want to know if there are any newer/better programs out right now.

And if AVCHD is the choice, will the burning process be the exact same as this? http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/...-ray_page_2.cfm

And another question, after I convert the file, would I be able to simply drag it onto SD and play it off there?

Have you looked at AVS Converter? I think the latest is ver 6.0
