yeah it says it will only boot with jtagged machines, it will be interesting to see how long 2.0 takes to hit the scene, almost seems like 1.92 is taking so long may as well wait for 2.0 now.

i think the new firmware will provide the missing information, it will make the machine think it read it.

Nooooooooo Dead Island! I've been waiting to play this game for like 4 years, and now it's a XGD3 game. I would shell out the $60 for it, but I just have no faith in the developer and can't afford to waste money if the game sucks.

I seen that they will have the ability to rip these games but has there been any mention if they will be able to be put on a normal dual layer DVD?

There seems to be conflicting information on whether they will fit on a normal DVD+R DL. The game data partition of an old style 360 disc had a max size of 6.9GB and MS said that XGD3 will give devs an extra 1GB to work with, so that's 7.9GB which would fit on a DVD+R DL, although it depends what else is on the disc aside from the game data partition.

I don't really see how MS could update regular DVD-ROM drives to read some new type of disc too. But then again, I'm just speculating and I don't know much about the technology, so I'll wait and see what the folks working on a solution have to say. If I was guessing, I'd say that there will be a way to burn and play XGD3 games at some point, cos the people working on the 360 side of things always seem to find a way.

that disc will have 3 layers, the standard xbox disc is 2 layers, from what i read that third layer will have the data to boot the game,

I think that's misinformation that came about from it being XGD3 and people assuming the "3" had something to do with the disc having 3 layers. You can't just update a regular DVD-ROM drive to read triple layer discs through a firmware update. While triple layer discs do exist, it would be silly to create one and then only add an extra 1GB for game devs to use anyway.

Yeah, if people are thinking there is three layers just based on the reason that there is a 3 in the name of the disc, thats stretching too far.

What I always thought is that MS was just releasing more space for game content instead of MS content like updates and such. I eagerly wait to hear what people find out.
