With the constant updates and the need to play online I guess even if it got hacked it wouldn't be much of a benefit.
Upgrading the HDD is unnecessary since I don't download much anyway. And yes i've heard people say if I want to play ps2 games just buy one, but it sure would be nice if I could play them on my PS3. Hey that's just me.
Besides, it would nice if we could play old sega or n64 games on it.

Even if they hacked or did not hack.
I dont mind realy.
I payed for the whole Call Of Duty range out of my own pocket,
Im a big fan of COD
Money well spent.
If they keep making games of that quality and graphics and "fun" ill keep paying.
The money I spent on the COD range you could not have more fun anywhere else for that price, even if the man pockets the money , its cool with me, the big man can buy better hardware and make better games.
long story short- "dont hack the PS3 make them pay to bring out better games"

The only series I am a fan of is the legacy of kain series. the games are spread over all 3 PS consoles. Now do I want to have my PS1 PS3 and PS3 all jammed under my TV or do I just want my PS3 which can play all of them (PS2 BC hoefully comming this spring to all models)?
At lot of people simply do not have enough space to hose all the consoles under the TV at the same time. BC is a space saver and I am sure most player would have paid the extra $30 to have an emotion chip rather than software emulation on their PS3s.

does stealing games make you a "pirate" and a theif? yeah of course it does. Do i want to pay 63 dollars a game(with tax) to play a game ill not pick up again in 3 weeks? no. I have well over 150 xbox 360 games. Some were mine I backed up, some were rented and backed up. The ps3 being hacked. I mean come on we already know you can back up the games and blu ray dvd using the swiss army knife tool. Is it that hard to believe with steady patience and determination for a good solid couple of months that a hack can be made? have faith.

I personally don't agree that $2-3 dollars a piece for a 25gb BD-R is not expensive for what you are doing/getting.

Well my bro got a an xbox and a 360 from Asia. They were all hacked.
This time he wants to get a PS3 and he claims it's probably hacked there. I've tried to convince him it's not possible yet but he claims the store he got his 360 from probably has it hacked.
Oh and as for that Geo guy, are you guys sure he can do this. I mean if he hacked the iphone that fast, he should be able to hack the PS3 but he seems to be having trouble. Just hope he doesn't lose interest or comes out saying it's impossible.

Geohot will never get it hacked. He's trying some crude methods of finding a hardware exploit. For those interested his first attempt to get to the flash memory involved putting a semiconductor inbetween two of the chips on the motherboard and unsurprisingly it didn't work. Hardware hacks won't work this time around as sony specifically designed it to prevent that. Software hacks are a possibility but even at that, all it takes is a firmware update and its gone.

he wil defenitly be wrong.. cuz nothing in hte whole world is impossible!

the ps3 gets his firmware update by checking online if there is a newer version, the psn doesnt check that, you own machine does check it. so if the ps3 gets a custom firmware, there would defenitly be a change in it that dont let ur ps3 check for a newer version.. we can easily presume geohot or another hacker is that smart. and if not they will get a msg for a newer version the 1st time they test their custom firmware, thus make a change in custom firmware again..
As for i am... I do!

Why is it everywhere all over the internet everyone keeps saying bluray media is so expensive? Is everyone blind, death, dumb, or stupid? Bluray media can be had for anywhere in the range of $2-$4 per disc. That is very expensive? I'm confused, because this isn't the first place I've seen RECENTLY about people saying bluray media is oh so expensive. It's ridiculous, people should start doing a little research before just programming themselves to continue to say bluray media is so outrageously priced.

The answer to both your questions should be obvious. Yes, $2 is very expensive when you can get the same game for:
Free (Wii and PC)
A one-time fee, if that (Xbox, PS2)
Pocket change
And when you're already capable of limiting costs so drastically, why would you ever even give thought to spending a whopping two hundred pennies on a game, much less four hundred?

i remember the CD-R was $6 per disc..
u bought a stack of 5 for $30, would discover that 1 or 2 discs were damaged in the 2x-speed burning process.
and i and ppl around me where happy with the 3 succesfull discs.
almost no dog on earth had a cd burner. and not even al cd playing machines like audio system could read the burned discs.
but we paid the price for it cuz the technology was new. i know i tought it was a nice time of improvement..
but now i think ppl dont see the improvement anymore. maybe we get used or bored to the fact that we get new technical miracles everyday.
this blueray discs are little frisbee-shaped-mini-harddiscs that can hold up to 50G!! i think BD kick ass. no problem i pay $2-4 per disc. plus ALL discs work if u burn them right... woot!
As for i am... I do!

So what? Sony can make games require a certain firmware before being allowed to be played. Besides that, the huge majority of PS3 players play online unlike the PS2. Sony could just ban anyone who has any type of mod to their PS3. A ps3 without Online is hardly worth playing. This time around I don't think "I want to play backups" will be believed if someone challenges the legality of a mod because Blu Ray discs are virtually indestructible unless you deliberately want to damage the disc. I definitley don't want to see it hacked, it will ruin the PS3. Geohot has no chance of succeeding, he's basically broadcasting to the world what he's doing. Sony can use that to block his attempts. The iPhone was a simple phone designed by a company completely new to phones, the PS3 is a mature console made by Sony whose last 2 consoles were hacked to bits. They spent around $60 million this time around for security, I don't think it went to waste.

Is it just me or everytime someone hopes the PS3 gets hacked on this forum, a member shows up acting all pessimistic or tries to put someone down by questioning someone else's morality?
Oh well who cares I just hope it get's hacked so I could use custom firmware like on my psp.

I pretty much want to see it hacked as well. And my only reason is that it's just so interesting to me. I may never even attempt to do anything with it depending on the consequences but just reading about what is going on in the scene and the fight that would happen between the users and Sony would be more entertaining to me than it should be.

Simply because we can see how secure Sony made the PS3. In 3 years no one has succeeded in releasing a single mod or a single exploit. Nothing whatsoever. Sony have their own people constantly looking for exploits who report back to them to patch the exploit and that is with the source code for the OS, these hackers like geohot don't have any access to the source code and are in essence a one man team who thinks its a good idea to report to the world the methods they are using to find an exploit.

Out of interest, what is your main reason for wanting the PS3 hacked?
Sony PS2 was hacked pretty fast and was Sony's major success to date. Even with people all around copying their games. PS3 has no known form of "hackery", and its been Sony biggest headache!
I'm not saying that if it gets hacked it will be better. I'm just saying it does not matter. (and probably games would be a bit cheaper - that I would love).
Why did some guys hacked WEP a few years ago? For the sake of knowledge or to steal someone's internet connection? Myself I would like to see it hacked so we could have some decent speeds in Linux, and mainly so that big companies like Sony or M$ keep paying guys to discover and invent new secure systems. Jobs are always needed.
A few days ago, some pros proved RSA ain't as secure as it used to be (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/01/07/rsa_768_broken/), and that is a good thing... makes us rethink the problem and move forward.
So what if sj512 wants to pirate games? Leave him be.
You want to buy your games? That's fine too, go ahead.
Unless you are some kind of police, what's the point of saying sj512 is wrong and you are right? Are you mad because you had to spend money on that huge collection of games of yours?
(btw: you should be glad you can lend you console to your friends for free... because if Sony, and others, could, they would find a way for your friends to pay some fees and things like that!).
If they crack ps3 in 2010 will I get my hands on pirated games? Sure. Will I continue buying the games I like? Sure.
Will I continue spending money on playstation magazines? Sure.
Will some guys in Somalia, who aren't as lucky as I am who can afford 69? for a game, copy any game they can get their hands on? Hell yeah they will :-D and I'm not worried about that...

CDR and DVDR media is not free...it is cheaper, but still not free. I wonder why you compair the PS3 to all the last-gen systems, and not to the 360...that's just silly. Plus, don't forget the hidden cost of copied games for the 360: a bricked console and a worthless xbox live account.

As WII and PC games can be run via ISO on your HDD that = free
360 games can be copied to the HDD also that = free
Original XBox games can be copied to the HDD = free
I guess if you look at it, the PS3, 360, Xbox, PC all have HDD's, so they could all be free and the need for blank media gone :)
