Ripping backup PS2 Singstar game songs to PS3?

Sorry if this has been answered already but the search engine seems to not be working properly at the moment.

My question is.

Yesterday I bought a PS3 slim and today I will buy one of the Singstar games. I´ve read that you should be able to rip old PS2 Singstar discs to get the songs into the PS3 hdd. Is it possible to do this with PS2 backup discs also or does it have to be the original?

Otherwise, is it possible to rip the PS2 game songs to the PS2/PC and then transfer them to the PS3 hdd?
