Install the IOS listed next to Super Mario Galaxy 2 on this page:
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs...es-use-run.html

If you get a black screen you probably need an update. Install IOS56-64-v5405 WAD using WAD Manager & it should work, this method has worked for other people.

By using this WAD Method, you won't have to update, & you'll be able to play the game.

1. Download WAD Manager App
2. Download IOS56-64-v5405.WAD (Google it, & put "wad" at the end of IOS56-64-v5405. It should appear on mediafire)
3. Create 3 folders on your sd card. "Apps", "WAD" & "Root"
4. Put " WAD Manager" in the "app" folder & the IOS WAD in the "WAD" folder
5. Put the card in your wii & boot it up
6. Run the Homebrew Channel, then WAD Manager
7. Install the IOS
8. Enjoy Super Mario Galaxy 2!

This is for DVD's only, if you're using a USB Loader, someone just posted a thread listing what you need configured in the loader to run Mario Galaxy 2

I should just add that updating with a modchip will NOT brick the wii unless you update from a game who's region doesn't match the console's region.

The only difference is that if you update to 4.2 then you won't be able to play out of region games with just your modchip anymore and will need some homebrew assistance to get them started.

You need a softmodding guide. It's a long process for a newbie, so if you're lazy & you don't like a lot of work :) Updating should fix your problem, but, as penguin98 said, you won't be able to play out of region games with your modchip. Guides are everywhere, unfortunately, I know of no guides here for any firmware other than 4.2, so try looking at wiihacks or GBATemp, or even google, there's lots of info out there.

So I can just update off of wii connect 24 and nothing will happen? Or should I buy a retail copy and update off of that. I just dont want my wii to brick. I have a Wasabi DX chip with 4.0U firmware. PLZ RESPOND

You'll lose your region-free capability on your modchip, so you will need to softmod your wii eventually, but for now it should be safe to update, but do so at your own risk!

No, don't do that. I have a hard modded wii running yaosm on 3.2U. The only thing I had to do was install the homebrew channel and then use it to run neogamma. You absolutely do not need to install any ios or cios for it to work if you are running if off the disc through neogamma. Neogamma will complain that you don't have ios249 installed or something, but it will work anyway. Btw, I am playing it with retail disc, but I'm sure backup will be the same since there is no protection on the disc.

Nothing goes in the root folder, it's just there as a directory, you must have this folder for it to work. I have the link for the IOS you need. Every game has a specific IOS, & they run independant of the system menu.

There was a link to the IOS on mediafire, but has since been deleted. Luckily though, IOS56 is included in a 4.1 WAD Package over at We Hack Wii

Download the "4.1 WAD Files" Package on this page: http://wehackwii.pbworks.com/WeHackWii-Package

Use only IOS56-64-v5405

It works!

Thanks

Just like to mention that i still cannot see IOS56 when i run wad manager. it was only after i choose IOS249 that the IOS56 appear for me to confirm to install.

anyway, as long as it works.

thanks a million.

wow thanks for the quick reply ^^

I think I got the structure right, but I won't be wasting any more of your time. I just got mario galaxy 2 working by updating the gecko os app and loaded it with that (even though I have the Pal game for a Pal system).
I'm using 4.1E but I did so many other things that I don't quite remember which IOS I have installed, but I'll gladly look it up if someone might needed it. And I'm using a Wiikey and have recentely installed the 1.99 beta update.

anyway 12137 thanks for the reply and your willingness to help !

@bagger_4, When you try to run it, what happens (i.e Do you get a black screen, is the backup detected at all? etc)?

Hello... I have wasabi DX in Wii (PAL) with a firmware 4.1E. I just bought supermario galaxy 2 (NTSC) for my son. Now we are trying to play the original game (NTSC) in the PAL console with wasabi DX (ver 3.0) but it says UNREADABLE disk. Doesn't wasabi suppose to run all regions? Please some advice will be appreciated.

Did you update to 4.2? If you did, that would explain it. The 4.2 update stops modchips from playing out-of-region games. Unless you have some configurations on your modchip that are interfering, can you play any other NTSC games?

Nop, I did not update it...it is still 4.1E... I think the problem is: new SMG2 requires to have 4.2 to run. I know there is ways to circunvent this... Now I know that I have two options, update to 4.2 and lose the ability of playing out-of-region games, which is my case, or running a homebrew firmware. I did run the homebrew 4.1U posted here #165...and still have the same error...UNREADABLE DISK...sugesttions???
