The only issues I ever have to worry about is if the game is from a different region right (PAL/J)? And if it is from a different region can I run regionfrii and brickblocker on the iso prior to burning and still be guaranteed that I won't brick my system and that the worst that will happen is the game not work?

Please and thanks everyone
With a modded wii you are able to play most other region games, the only way to brick your wii is if you grab a different region game and update the wii firmware with it. It is common sense really, say you grab a PAL game which has an update and you update your wii, you now have a PAL update on your NTSC wii, ofcourse this is gona mess it up.

In this instance you can use something like wii brickblocker to remove the update hence skipping the process and possible bricking, but some games require the update on the dvd for it to work. Rule of thumb, don't go and update your wii with a different region game. That's all there is to it. Someone posted "it's like putting diesel gas into your petrol car". Hope this enlightens you, -sLibs

Cool thanks for the quick response, so I'm set as long as I keep it NTSC U then. And I use brick and region on all NON NTSC games. That being said if I do play a non region game (not really that likely unless its an NTSC J game that I really really want) and I use brick and region on it, I will only know that it req's the update once I put it in the system..that being said can I still abort the update by taking the dvd out and then resetting the system? I only ask because from your previous post it seems like the only way to tell with some games is by actually giving them a go. So if I play a game like that that req's the update from the dvd am I SOL once I get there? Or can I just pop it out and throw away the dvd?

Please and Thanks

Yes once you put it a game and your in the wii menu and you see the game in the top left box once you go and click the box a message will appear and tell you about the update, also it'll have a message saying it may corrupt your wii if you've modified it and stuff, they only say those things so it covers nintendo's ass. If you don't want to update, turn off your system (it even says that).

Some games can be fixed with regionfrii or wiibrickblocker, some games are even able to update your wii without corruption but personally i wouldnt update my wii from other region games.

sLibs,

awesome that helps me out alot, I heard everyone talking about running regionfrii and brickblocker on every burned game so I wasn't sure if I even had to do it on NTSC games, but you answered my questions, as long as I stay with NTSC U i'll be fine, thanks again!

I think you should first fix your english...

Then you can go to this thread that a friend of mine started that gives a load of good informations for J-Wiis but read the whole thread before asking anything, people there are kind of "picky" on the forums rules... and himself especially... guess it's the price to pay to talk to some pros...

I have a NTSC-U wiikeyed with 2.2u
I tried to the Boogie update twice and both times it hangs (The progress bar goes quickly to the right but hangs with a little bit to go). I have to unplug power and the console restarts fine.
Does it mean my Boogie disc is bad ?

Do I need FV 3.0u before I can play Boogie and perform the update ?
I checked and the Boogie disc is indeed NTSC-U as well.
Any suggestions ?

To Wongmb:

I have a WiiKey install and updated to 3.0U without problems. Then I allowed the Boogie update, which only installs microphone capabilty. Everything works fine - No problems at all.

To Domo1944:

Did u update to 3.0 via internet or game disc ? If does it thru the internet, its ok even though Wiikey is there (i.e. it wont detect it and turn my Wii into a brick ?)

I am already very paranoid that I have to hard boot my Wii when the Boogie update hangs up on my 2.2u Wii.

Someone here suggest I should not need 3.0u to perform the Boogie update ? Can someone confirm this (which means there must be something wrong with the Boogie disc I have.)

To Domo1944:

I now updated my Wii from 2.2u to 3.0u via internet and everything works fine.
When I put in the Boogie disc, it prompts me to update but gives me the warning message of updating may make a modded Wii useless ? I can either hold power button 4 sec to decline or click "I accept" to start the update. Is it safe to do the "I accept" ? Want to be 100% sure before I do it.

I don't blame you for wanting to be sure. I updated to 3.0u thru the internet. I accepted the Boogie update by clicking YES.

Do Mercury Meltdown or Table tennis have any bricking issues? I only have firmware 2.0J and all the games i have played on my J wii have been USA iso's that i have patched with brickblocker. So far everything works well.

I also want to know if Metroid Prime 3 usa will brick a 2.0J wii. I know it will give me the duel channels but that does not bother me as long as all the games work correctly. Please help.

Hi Larry, I'm sure you have heard it too many times but still - Thank You for the great guide!

Unfortunately I didn't get to read your guide before I ran Paper Mario on my PAL wii. After that I also ran Donkey Kong Barrel Blast. Now it's semi-bricked, and also 2 additional channels are added.

Please advise which PAL game will fix it for me (or any other better way)
You said that Mario Striker PAL will fix the semi-brick created by Paper Mario, but will it also fix the problem created by Donkey Kong?

Also can you please let me know what are the other PAL games that come with latest PAL firmware?

Much appreciated if you can please help me out here...
Thank you!

dave_e186, I did the same thing with my Wii and Big Brain Academy and since then I was afraid to update my Wii even with a PAL update. I would like to ask you if anything bad happened since your new update or are you just stuck with the double channels?

So since the first, semi-bricking update you couldn't access the wii menu? Or is it since the second update?

So then your Wii was semi-bricked with the first update and since then no update could fix it. That sounds pretty bad.
