I am a bit confused. I started out with 3.4U. I ran the twilight princess hack and installed the Homebrew Channel. I installed cIOS 249 and then selected the wiigator gamma loader. It showed IOS 249. After Disk Read errors, I down graded to 3.2 and have the same problem. I am able to load and remove IOS 249. I am able to use the wadmanager. I am able to used DVD dumper.
In a previous post you said to use the downgrader 1.1 .
Did you mean to downgrade to something other than 3.4U?
If you have the Homebrew Channel, is there any need to ever run Zelda twilight princess again?
I have read posts and tutorials until my eyes are bleeding.
Should I upgrade to 3.4U again?
Something that may give a clue. I put the 02 fix gamma loader on my SD. I removed and reinstalled IOS 249. The 02Fix gamma loader turns the screen black and then text blinks and freezes my wii. I went back to the "plain vanilla" gamma loader and it loaded fine.
More questions if you have had the patience to read this far.
In case I have tried to backup programs that are incompatible with the gamma loader, can you recommend a backup torrent that has worked 100% for you?
Have you changed any of the options for the gamma loader?
I am driving 30 miles today to get some Verbatim DVD-R. I hope that is my problem since everything seems to work like larrylje's tutorial but I get the DVD Read Error. Even wiigator says that a read error is probably due to media or a bad burn. I have 3 different DVD burners available to me. If I burn on each one a Verbatim DVD-R at 4x, I should get a good one if it is just media.
I have found in life that the biggest problems usually have the simplest solutions.
I am hoping someone can come up with some new ideas.
One final question for everyone. Every tutorial seems to start out with doing the twilight princess hack. If you have done it once and you have a functioning Homebrew Channel, do you ever have to do it again to make the wiigator loader work?
Thanks to everyone,

Yes be on 3.4. Seems you missed a step in the oct 23rd fix. Did you run the downgrader? No need for zelda after homebrew is installed.
1) get homebrew install with 3.4u
2) Run oct 23rd fix ios249
3) Then run the ios downgrader 1.1 (I believe) This will go out and install all the proper ios files you need.
4) Then install cIOSv7 (make sure you get no errors)
5) Use Wad manager 1.3 to install wii gator wad
These steps work everytime for me on 3.4

larrylje,
In your tutorial, you reference wiigator firmware 3.3 and below and wiigator firmware 3.4.
In language a newbie can understand, what is the difference in the files?
I did use 3.4 when I hade 3.4U installed.
I used the 3.3 firmware after I downgraded to 3.2.
Thanks,

It's wii gator 0.3 not 3.3. 3.4 is the firmware of the actual system and wii gator is the app you need to run the backups. You should be on 3.4 not 3.2

You mean 3.4 not 4.4. Yes you should be on 3.4. As long as you install the wii gator wad you should have a channel and you no longer need the SD card unless you want to run emulators or other apps. For backups, you don't need it. Homebrew was needed just to get these installed.
Thank you

YOU DO NOT NEED TO UPDATE OR BE ON 3.4 FIRMWARE!
If you have the OCT 23rd 3.3 or 3.4 firmware wad/cIOS files no longer can be installed. You will need to go to the link I provided at the beginning of the guide to fix this limitation (as well if you have 3.3 or 3.4 firmware THERE IS NO NEED TO DOWNGRADE!).
If you have installed any previous cIOS (cIOS ver 5 or below) then you need to uninstall them. cIOS ver 7 can install over ver 6. So if you have the WiiGator beta version more then likely all you need to do is run the cIOS ver 7 installer).
Once that is installed boot the games via the boot loader.
IF YOU STILL GET THE DVD READ ERROR (324) THEN TRY DIFFERENT MEDIA!!!!!
I don't care how many times iceman29 says media doesn't matter the fact is it does. There have been numerous users getting the DVD Read Error (324) and changing the media (even after trying 3 to 4 different brands) fixed the issue.
Media issues have plagued the Wii Scene since the beginning. This was even the case with Modchips. If you know you have installed everything properly and still get the DVD Read Error (324) then start trying different media.

I think it's stupid not to upgrade to 3.4 when the fact is it works just fine. As for the media, no one said you were wrong, I simply stated that I have had no issues. So please explain why not to upgrade when it only makes sense? Who knows what will happen when more games come out.

I said the Wii can be picky with media and you said it is not picky. Yours might not be picky but others might have a Wii that is. Also if you feel others should follow your steps then maybe you should create your own guide and ask for it to be posted.
If someone is on 3.2 or 3.3 first version firmware then it is as simple as installing the HBC/cIOS then boot games via WiiGator Gamma. If your on OCT 23rd or 3.4 update then you need to follow extra steps that I provided in the link at the beginning. So I am making it as simple as it can be.
Also 3.3 and 3.4 update block trucha signed disc. So there might be some that want to run the system at 3.2 so they can run trucha signed disc.
I don't mind you helping but it gets confusing to members when members give conflicting information (Example: the media issue or what version firmware to have on the system).

I understand and sorry to be confusing if I was. Problem is if a game is release with 3.4, they will have to update their system anyway to play it, so why not update now? You say there are issues with some of the trucha signed games. Not sure which ones are but I have played over 20 games that are new and had no issues. Aren't they going to be force to update if a game has 3.4? Say if they play a rented game or buy it? So my point is, why not stay up to date?

You can use WiiBrickBlocker on any game update.
If the update contains a hardware update like Wii Balance board or Wii Speak then you can install that specific WAD file update for the hardware and skip the Wii Menu uppdate all together.
Example: Animal Crossing needs the Wii Speak hardware installed before you can boot the game. So I extract the IOS38-64-v3609.wad file from the Animal Crossing ISO (which is for the Wii Speak hardware) then install that via WAD Manger. After that I WiiBrickBlock the game disc to disable the update on the disc. Now when I boot the disc it dosen't ask for the update and I still have the original 3.3 firmware (not OCT 23rd update) as the Wii System menu.
I have the original 3.3 firmware and can play any game out at this time. That includes the newest available games with updates. Just WiiBrickBlock the disc.
As for trucha signed disc. If you have no backups that have been trucha signed then you will have no issue with 3.3 or 3.4 Firmware and backups.

Good information. My issue is that I have modded a few wii's for people who buy their games and don't download them and aren't computer savy at all. Therefore wanted to be on the newest update to help prevent a brick. Me being IT, can handle it, but for people I do it for, I make it as simple for them as possible being safe at the same time.

Great instructions! Followed them and everything has installed correctly. I haven't ran a backup yet, but I have one quick question. Can GAMMA be placed as a channel on the Wii home screen? I've skimmed through the posts and didn't see anything regarding it. Hope Im not repeating something that was already taken care of...

In the October 23rd Wii Fix by ?a_running_pir8?..Pt.3 of 3...steps (3) & (6) refer to a "D" pad. Do I need a special controller for this operation or is it inside the program visible once I execute the instructions.? Sorry for these crazy ?s but I need to set everything up on a large magnifying monitor first & I'm trying to get it right the first time! I can barely see anything now since the tumor. Takes forever to read anything now & understand it..and I'm not use to listening to these posts with [2nd speech center & text Aloud]...give it a try..sucks! LOL As I go through the entire thread I might be asking more questions..thanks in adv.
I ain't bitchin..it is what it is.. I'll get it sooner or later..thanks!!

You don't do this part. Just get the ios257 install, run the ciosfix and run the ios downgrader 1.0, then install ciosv7
