iceman69, stick with your own thread if all you are going to do is try to make larry's guide look bad.

Understand those are the rules but why? Is it illegal to have? How can these other sites do it but afterdawn can't?
Yes it is illegal to host or link to official Nintendo code without their permission. As for the site it is there choice to make it against the rules. They are just protecting themselves.

It is actually illegal in the USA and other contires to mod the Wii System (or any other intellectual property that has copy protection).

Then how can this site allow it to have guides on an illegal act? Makes no sense.

There is no law against guides on modding anything.

Whether having a modchip or otherwise modding your consoles is illegal in your country or not, people are going to do it anyway.
So why not have proper methods in which to do it.

It is the file that is in question? The file contains Nintendo Code, so therefore it is not linked to this site.

I was more talking about some of the ios files that pothsprojects.com includes in their packs. Larry says it's illegal and you say it's not. Not sure why it's illegal to mod a box that belongs to you as long as you are doing anything illegal. I thought you could have backups of games as long as you own them.

Under the fair use act you do have that right to make backups BUT the DMCA says it is illegal to circumvent copy protection and. So in order to make those backups and play them you will break the law under the DMCA.

Using the excuse I bought the system so I can do what I want with it is not a legit reason in the laws eyes.

This is straight from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement website... (government site) http://www.ice.gov/pi/news/newsreleases/...1washington.htm

In any case we are getting off track. So if you want more information google the DMCA and read what it says.

Pretty interesting. Then how can afterdawn be legal? There is nothing about how to mods on here.

It isn't against the law to tell someone how to do it.

As well it is the users responsibility to know the law wherever they are located before performing the steps the guides walk them through.

Well at least on this subject I can add my two cents...I have a law degree and years of practice and larrylje is correct folks..one can say anything..it the completion of the act which in the eyes of the law makes it "defacto" rather than "dejure"! The old "if but for".........then this would not have occurred. All of this is perfectly legal..so far.

Regretfully, my apprehension suggest strongly that this will change under the current court & administration. Furthermore, the injury & disease I sustain now preclude me from continuing my practice. However, I remain steadfast & determined to fight the good fight whenever possible to ensure at least the smallest degree of our civil rights remains intact.
My Little Problem..LOL
I'm writing tonight to ask a simple question guys...everything works well...no black screens or such neg. things. A few hours ago my lady was preparing for her Wii Fit Workout. She put the disk in and the upper left corner square was suggesting that she update the Wii board.

Didn't know if doing so would ruin all the apps. & files just put in to tweak this puppy. Please advise as what my options are or is this just something I can do without worrying about "bricking" or messing up all the prior work from yesterday!! Oh, BTW..haven't seen anyone talk about how to prevent another update like [update to 3.5] Thanks in adv.

Right now ---even after doing the HBC & WiiGator sys. flip[larrylje tut.]it still reads 3.4U..please don't tell me I have to do this all over again..I didn't think it was sys. update because right now my Wii still reads 3.4u even after I made all the changes in the tut. and it playing so far all [3] backups perfectly!!!

question everything

@ flamingo5

What system firmware is your wii on right now?

Looking at anther post in this section on the wii fit update, it looks like the update is for the balance board.

The only way to block disc updates is too be on System 3.2 and install "starfall" that I know of unless you have a modchip that has a config disc to configure no system updates.

Hi guys. I did the hack and installed cios and homebrew ok. I'm getting dvd read error 324 though. The disc is DVD+RW. I have read that they are unreliable. I am about to try a DVD-R tomorrow.
Is ther anything else I can try?
How do I know if I have the OCT 23rd 3.3 firmware?

The error is more than likely the media you are using.

As for the Oct 23rd update, are you able to use the Wii Shop channel or does it ask you too update.

If you have everything installed properly then it should work.

Things you can try...

Get different media (Believe it or not there are some that have had issues with Verbs as well).

Make sure your DVD burner has latest firmware installed.

Try using another DVD burner (rule out a faulty burner issue).

Make sure you have a good ISO dump of the game.

So I tried a Sony DVD-R, and I get the message "the game disc could not be read" If I eject it, it says 'Please insert the mario kart wii game disc'. So it is reading it enough to know what game it is.
Tried cleaning it,no joy.
I read here that Wiigator has problems with Mario Kart, so I'm trying Mario Galaxy tomorrow (dvd burner is in work)
Any other suggestions?

Cool, I will. Cheers man. There's a lot of variables in the equation. The burner looks like a cheap one, I'll check the manufacturer tomorrow.

I can't tell for sure either.

Tell you what. I have a Wiikey 2 modchip and I also have homebrew installed plus the wiigator channel.

So I know for sure it works with my Wiikey 2, but will test it out using the wiigator tomorrow as my kid is sleeping right now.
