Just a guess,
Maybe is a future plan when they bring back the BWC, cause PS2 games take more space and as we all know you can only install/store downloaded games to the internal HDD.
About the Price,
With 50 more euros to get 130gb more thats ok IMO,
but for 100euros more, i dont think so....
With 100-120euros you get a Seagate Momentus 500gb 16mb buffer 7200rpm with 3years warranty.
To Sum it.
300euros for PS3 Slim + 120euros for a Momentus = 420euros MAX, and you will have a 120gb to do what ever you like.

That?s good to know, I'm going to run out and grab a Sony bravia tv right now...
Sony lost me as a customer because of crap like this.

Wrong. The 120gb PS3 Slim IS $299. The RUMORED 250gb that is NOT confirmed would justifiably be at a higher price point IF released.
And @ redux ~ If you wanted BC & OtherOS/Linux capabilities you should have purchased one that had those features in it. But to complain about it now when the PS3 Slim is cheaper with less features then you only have yourself to blame. Unless I am missing something?...

I'm quite pleased to see them remove the factory linux install allowance.. now the FOSS hackers can turn their attention to cracking this thing properly. Already have a working kernel so it shouldn't be that hard.

Backward compatibility?
The direct quote from John Kollar (director of marketing) is - "Backwards compatibility is off the table," he told Kotaku at gamescom 2009.
Seems pretty catagorical to me.
Why would they bother anyways?
They'll simply add much of the PS2 catalogue to PSN and expect you to buy it again.

I can understand some people, what did you expect?
A slim PS3 with the features of the 60gb in half price?
How can it be?
from the 60gb the changes are
-card readers
-2xusb ports
-BWC
-linux.
+60gb
-360euros
from the 40gb the changes are
-linux
+80gb
-100euros
And the highlight is, that they didnt removed staff/features to make you buy them as peripherals.
As oner said, if you wanted the full thing, you should have paid for it when you had the chance.
What you pay is what you get people.

How's that crap? I like products that can be linked together, it's a PRO, not a CON... To be able to use the PSP with the PS3, it's a plus (not that it's useful, but it's a plus). So, allowing a TV to control the PS3 (i don't know how that works or is it useful or not) is not all that bad. Think about it, if you can make the TV and PS3 power up at the same time, that's pretty awesome. I have a Sony HD camcorder and it works wonderfully well with the PS3, i don't even have to burn discs anymore...
I think folks might be confused with the notion that if the PS3 breaks down the TV cease to work. No, the two products are independent, they only stop working if all of them are broken/defected. You certainly don't need a Sony TV to have the PS3 to work (vice versa).

And if you REALLY want to nit pick all PS3's have PS2 BC...it's just that as of right now you have to buy what you would like when they are released i.e. Marvel vs Capcom 2 though the patent applications have been sent for emulation via the Cell etc. just a few weeks ago.

What do you mean Zippy? When the 80/160gb are sold out of back stock (and EVERYWHERE is selling out as of right now) there will only be the 120gb Slim and the RUMORED 250gb so IF it is released there will only be 2 models.

Well after 100GB why do they need to go higher? I guess they can charge more for a part that dose not cost that much and its pure profit on that unit but..... wouldn't it be better to focus on one unit line?

You can't please everyone...they want a lower price, they get it and complain about not enough choices...they say it has too many features, they get them removed and they continue to complain more...they don't think BC is needed...only to complain later that it's wanted...oh well like I said ~ Those who complain have only themselves to blame.

Can't put it any better than what you said :)
And i believe some of them still using that lame argument "now, the PS3 needs to roll out the games!"
Well, one thing i noticed that people stopped arguing over is "dual layered DVD discs are good enough for games, BD is just a waste of space!" "Why bother with BD, when you can use cheaper dvd drives!"

Donw boy down!!
I was just thinking would it not save them money to go with a one unit setup? with the random bundle? By the time you add up advertising for all the SKUs and all.

LoL Zip ;) ~ But actually that is basically what they are doing since as of right now the only available PS3 will be the 120gb Slim, especially since they are not producing anymore of the old stock 80/160's and they will be sold out pretty soon...

Ah so the bundle has the larger HD and they are not going to have a separate SKU for it by itself?

I'm sure that the 120gig and the 250gig are made on the same assembly line. No added cost production wise. The two units will be the same PS3 other than HD size. If my current 60gig ever breaks, i will be getting the 250gig. The extra $100 will be worth it to me as i am too lazy to put in a larger HD myself.
Sony should have said that there would not be any WIFI in the slim, then let the boards light up about how that sucks, then "SIKE", IT does come with WIFI.
