DivX player only plays one second of video then stops..

I'm trying to watch a show with .srt subs. I matched the names and made sure the files were downloaded correctly. But, every time I try to play them on DivX, the video plays for one second then stops abruptly. I don't know what I should do to fix it-- I tried reinstalling DivX but it didn't help. What should I do?

A couple of things to try. Open the SRT in notepad and look for any
garbage. It should be clear, readable text.

Reinstall VOBSUB.

Well, if you think the subs are causing the player to crash, just remove the subs/ copy them to a different folder. Then try to play the video again, without subs.

If it still happens, then the video is the problem, if not, check the subs like suggested. If the video is corrupt, then you might be able to rebuild index/fix it, whatever...VLC can play corrupted videos, you might want to give that a try

I tried reinstalling VOBSUB and checking the .srt files-- they're both okay, but they didn't change the problem.

This series is 10 ep. long, and up until episode 5, it was working fine. All episodes after have this same problem.

I tried playing them with WMP, and they were fine, but the subs weren't working. With DivX, they too only played one second of video.

Thank you for the advice, it helped me to understand the problem more, but I still don't know how to solve it.

Any other suggestions?

Ah, but, I just installed VLC right now, and it works! Thank you! It seems to be working fine on it!

For now I guess I'm satisfied. But, if you guys don't mind giving me any more suggestions to fix the other players, that would be greatly appreciated as well.

Yes, VLC is better at playing bad videos.


You can try and run the problematic files through Avidemux. leave Video and Audio set to copy and save as a new AVI. Sometimes I run them through Avi-mux_Gui. Either one is a 2 minute process.
