Can't Configure My PS2 Network Adapter

It's like this...

went to set up my PS2 network adapter with flatOut's config utility
(don't have the start-up disk) so I could play online, so, when I press the button
to edit the configuration, The thing locks up on me. totally freezes up. I been trying this for a couple days. I figure the PS2 doesn't detect It. so,
1.)Has anyone experienced this Before.
2.)does any body know what causes this.
3.)Is it fixable, If so how.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Instead of trying to edit configuration, why not let it use AUTO to setup the Network connection.
