Do Burned PS2 Games damage lens?

Hey, I backed up a few games onto Memorex DVD+RW's and I was tested the games out, all work fine. I didn't actually play them though.

I was wondering, do backup games damage the lens in anyway? Are Memorex DVD's okay to use? I want to make sure before I put away my original copies.

I think so. I have also come across certain devices that can prevent the lens from burning out the first time, but I can't remember it. I'll post the link if I come across it again.
