Ok, so I bought a PS2 flip top cover off ebay for my PS2.
My PS2 is a V10 (I think.) SCPH - 50001. I removed the top of the case and DVD drive, then put the flip top cover on. When I tried to get it to load a PS1 game, I got "Disc Read Error." Same with a PS2 game.
Im not really good with this kind of stuff, I mean, I was using the slide tool no problem; but I didnt want to mess up the gears so I got the cover. It kinda makes a scraping noise at one point when the tray is moving in or out, even if theres no disk in it.
TL;DR: Installed a fliptop lid to a fat PS2. Doesnt read disks now. Worked perfectly before.
Anyone know whats wrong with it, what I did wrong, or how to fix it?
Is your flip top for your Version as there are different ones, like for V4-V7 then V9-V10
Also some have said not to tighten the screws too much. YOu may have to test a bit with that.
I had one V7 where the flip top fit perfectly. I had no problems.
My other V7, I had to just keep the lid open with the magnet on the disc, or put weight on it, lol
The case is for V4-V11.
Ive been messing with it since I made the first post, theres nothing wrong with it reading disks, I put the original DVD cover back on with no top case and it loaded disks fine.
I tried just sitting the magnet on top of the disk and Didnt work. Scratched the hell out of one of my disks though.
I put the case on without putting the screws in and it read disks fine. Tried with the screws in and it doesnt work at all. Been trying to find the right combination of which screws to put in and how tight, but as soon as I put any screws in it seems to not work at all.
Also, when I had the cover on with no screws in, It read a PS1 game as a PS1 game as long as I didnt try to load it from the browser menu, then it would read as a either CD disk, or a PS1 game.
What do I do now? I dont really want it to have no screws in holding it together in case something happens and the whole shit comes apart spewing PS2 guts everywhere.
Also, thank you for taking the time to reply. I really could use the help.
Also are you using the white magnet from your old top. I am surpised it won't hold your disc down.
It is the same thing as if the lid is off like pictured below
Mine does perfectly. Like I say not all makes of these Fliptops fit perfectly at all. Just like that thread I linked you too has 79 pages of people discussing it.
I lucked out on my one it fits and works great, but i sold that one.
Yeah, I was noticing the 79 pages.
And yes, Im using my old magnet. The one that came with the cover was garbage. I dont know if its a v9 or v10, but its looking like I should have just looked for a better (although more expensive) cover.
I guess I'll have to mess around with the screws untill it works or leave it unscrewed. Thank you for your help.
Yeah I know the feeling. Its crappy when the flip top won't fit properly.
On a side note: To know if its a v9/v10 start up PS2 with no game in it ,press triangle and check dvd driver version dvd ver 3.00 = v9 & dvd ver 3.02 = v10.
Its a V10. I think Ill try to find a New PS2 anyways, My laser is going to shit the bed because Ive been using cheap disks anyway. Spent like $30 on different brands before I found out you NEED to buy verbatims. At least my HP's work... somewhat.
