Hi,
my cousin gave me his ps2 last month. he said that it was modified.
i played the games that he bought(pirated) and it worked fine.
however, it didn't work when i burned the game and tried it on my ps2.
the burned game worked on my friend's ps2 though.
any idea?

Better find out what mod was done apart from perhaps the disc you used isn't a cheap n nasty hard to read disc & that it was book typed to dvd-rom or whter your ps2 can even read whatever booktype the disc was set to,short of opening the ps2 to see if it's chipped or softmodded it's all speculation & their ain't ne easy answer till you find out from cousie

yeah scorp but as you say.. not all ps2's will even see + media.. so bitsetting is useless in those cases anyway.

DVD + & - Discs are the same, the part that makes the two formats different is the bitsetting information which is the first part that gets read by a player, the bit setting change adds the info required so now in effect you have a dvd-rom,by rights the slim ps2 can read both types. If it doen't work then get some verbatim dvd-r,the discs that do work check their speed rating & get the same in the verbatim, use imgburn to create the iso & burn, you still however need to find out what mod was done before anything else
there is one thing i've just noticed you are talking about the ps2 the cousin gave you yes,so in your first post further down you call it your ps2 is this correct or are you now referring to another ps2 that you already had in which case it won't be able to read copied games

The early phats weren't able to play + media untill later on i'm not sure what the model numbers were when the changes were made there'll be a list online somewhere,if your handy with screw driver you can soon find out if it's a modchip if there isn't one then it'll be softmodded unless the games given to you are actually genuine ps2 games, tho they'd have the normal pictures on them etc,
tut for softmodding a fat ps2,there's quite a bit involved to do it
