Modded PS2 can't play backup PSX discs

I have a PS2 slim (SCPH-77001) and I recently had it modded with a Matrix Infinity modchip, version 1.93. My Chrono Cross backup discs don't seem to work, however. They run perfectly using an emulator on my PC, but no such luck on my ps2. I tried holding the circle button during boot time, it still asked for a ps or ps2 disc to be inserted. Is there something I'm missing out on, because I received no manual or anything whatsoever with the modchip. Incidentally, backed up ps2 games run fine. Please help.

what type of disc did you use (DVD+/-, CD+/-) and how did you burn it to the disc (did you create an SFV? if you used a .CUE and .BIN, Did you use the CUE sheet to burn to disc?) these common problems can be really frustrating.
