I got a ps2 when it FIRST came out so many christmas's ago, however when i got it it was from ebay cuz of the shortage.. it cost me about 500 dollars. But it was worth it. Back then the idea of a dvd player plus next gen graphics on a Sony console to me was enough to pay the money. Plus the look of it was sleek, black with that blue PS2, and the BOX was another amazing sell that blue was just so pro. Anyways i got the system and loved it. the tray ejected and before this there was no system that had that. That fat ps2 lasted a couple years before i moved around and lost it...Fast track a few years of personal problems and stuff where gaming wasnt a part of my life...
Now i get to now, i recently had a Xbox 360, and PS3. I mod my own xbox 360 so i can play as many games as i want on that system. Im a lover of modded systems because if i run out hey i can just make another one... After a while i realized 360 had very few games i REALLY loved. some of them being Borderlands, REsident evil 5, Silent Hill homecoming, Dead Space, Dead Space 2, and a few others... im very big into survival horror. Today most xbox 360 games seem to be made for Halo fans and people that like online stuff.. im not into that.
So for a while i have wanted to get another ps2. The amount of games on it is superb to all consoles. And even tho im picky there are at least 20 games i really want to play on the system from the get go. The things that i considered was that i could get a really good one probably for 50 bucks (which i did)... that it could be modded very easily and the blank dvd discs are very cheap now. Also the flip-top that i use fits on the SCHP-7000 series so i got a series 70000 on ebay, at first i thought it was fucked up cuz during cut scenes it would take forever. AND it wouldnt read my memory cards... so i took some cotton and alcohol and very gently cleaned the lens, and i sprayed Dust-off in the memory card slots... VOILA! No more problems reading the games, and memory cards reading perfectly.
I must say i love my PS2 just as much maybe more than my xbox at this point. I love the ps3, but its unable to be modded very well at this point, but the games for that system are undeniably the best games ever made. Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, MGS 4, Heavy Rain, and so many more.
anyways i just wanted to post this my excitement about the ps2... however there is a problem. i recently switched from the normal AV cables it came with, to component cables... it makes the ps2 games look alot better. But when i use BreakerPro to play ps1 backups, it says Invalid format. So whats up with that? Im considering getting a ps1 cuz there 20 bucks and i dont like not bein able to play my ps1 games on the ps2.. plus the ps1 is easily modded as well. So anyways if you know whats wrong with my ps2 and the breakerpro not coming up correctly as Invalid Format let me know what to do. I think ill try to go back to AV for ps1 games and see if it works.
OH and i wanted to say, does anyone else think its crazy that the entire ps2 hardware is half the size of the disc drive? if u look at the slim, the disc drive takes up 2/3 of the console... the other 1/3rd is the guts of the ps2. i cant believe that they shrunk it down so much without hurting quality, i wonder how small the ps3 will get.
Here are some of my fav ps2 games so far... Resident evil 4 (best!), resident evil code veronica (graphics are nowhere near as good as RE4).... and thats all ive played so far, i cant wait to get to the Silent Hill games, Shadow of the colossus, ICO, MGS 2 and 3, Kingdom Hearts (was recommended this) and some more... i was excited to play Max payne and max payne 2 but when i loaded MP 2 i was like what the hell.. the graphic sucked and controlls sucked so i gave up.
