So I bought a Playstation 2 (30001) off ebay. When I got it, controller port 1 wasn't working. The controller works fine on port 2, but port 1 doesn't see it.
The guy on eBay doesn't want to take it back, and it would cost so much to ship it back that it's not worth it. It has a gamestop warranty sticker, so I'm going to try to see if it's still under that warranty.

If it's not, I was thinking of using a controller port splitter hooked up to port 2. Is this my best option?

How about the Sony warranty sticker? Is that still intact?

If not someone might have gone inside and open it and damage the ribbon cable for the PS2 controller ports. My memory is fuzzy but it might be possible to just replace the ribbon cable alone.

Or maybe the controller port is just damage and you might need to replace the part.

I doubt the Gamestop sticker warranty is still valid. It is only valid for like 30 days? Not only that but even if it was under warranty I doubt they will help you without a receipt.

Also on the ebay listing did the seller sell you the console as fully working? Did he mention anything about the defect?

If not then file a dispute with ebay and paypal with him if you do not want to keep the console.

Hit up craigslist for a PS2. In my area (North Carolina) I see tons of PS2 as low as $40 for a PS2 slim or a fatty PS2 with the network adapter all the time.

The only warranty sticker on there was the gamestop. I called them, and it appears it's no longer under warranty. I had considered filing a claim, but the cost of shipping it back would be more than I wanted to pay.

I decided to take it apart. It turns out that during shipment the cabble had partially pulled loose. I reconnected it, and now it works.

I still suggest you file a complaint. Tell him that you had to send it to repairs to get it working for yourself. Also post negative feedback. Who was this seller if I may ask? I'll stay away from him/her.
