Hi guys

Just got myself a Slim PS2 with an o2 modchip.

I have been using USBUTIL 2.0 to make ISO's from my games, then I am sticking them on my 2.5" 60 gb USB drive.

This drive is being powered by the PS2, I am waiting on a kit so it can be powered by separate.

Games so far are:

FF X
Fatal Frame 1
Bully
GTA Vice City

All these games stutter on intros and music. Is the problem because I need to wait for my separate power supply? Or any other reasons these games stutter when playing from HDD.

Sorry for being a total noob.

All the files I am using:
Open PS2 Loader v0.7 (wont load anything from HDD)
USB Advance (Using this as it's the only app that loads my games)
USBUtil v2.00 to rip my discs and transfer to HDD.

Thanks

I would not think you need a external power supply as your PS2 will do that already. To rip the games I use dvd decrypter

some games do not play good off of a usb hard drive since the ps2 usb ports are only usb 1.0(not really fast).

Ah I thought the slim was 2.0 USB. Explains why FMV etc is slow and choppy.

Actual game play seems fine. Are there any lists of what games run OK?

Thanks again for your time and help.

You don't have to have an external power supply. As Igmutaka said, the ps2 gives it power. However, when you don't use the power supply, the game lags and glitches. I would reccomend getting the external power supply. And also, the slim does have usb 2.0.

You are better off using a power supply for the hard drive so it can run at full power with out worry about damaging your ps2's usb ports. Usb ports only give out about 5v of power and is made for small devices(flash drives, mice, wireless adapters), not constantly spinning a hard drive motor. That's why most of the good drives come with a power supply( http://www.buzzle.com/articles/powered-usb-hub-vs-unpowered.html )
The PS2 usb ports are only 1.1 whether it is a fat ps2 or a slim ( http://www.console-exploits.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1218 )
