Hi I'm trying get HDadvance to work on my PS2..

The problem I'm having is when I connect my hard drive using the network adapter, the playstation just freezes up, It switches on ok and I get to the screen where I can choose "browser" or "system configuration" but the joystick doesn't work so I cant choose any options there. I have a working HDadvance CD but not the DVD. My PS2 is a phat model and it has a modchip installed, but I don't know which one as I bought it second-hand. It's been working fine with backups and when I remove the hard drive it works as normal again, so the problem is definitely there I think, could it be its not compatible with the mod chip??

PS2 version - SCPH-30003R (V4/V5)

Hard Drive - 120gb Maxtor diamondmax +9 6Y120L0132001 (set to MASTER)

I did remove the hard drive and ran my HDadvance CD, it boots up fine but gives the message HDD not detected, any help would be much appreciated!

It might be coincidence, but when I tried to use a 120GB maxtor with my old fatline, I had the same problems. I assumed it was just a glitchy drive (I got it from a dead PC I found next to a dumpster, but it did work when connected to a working PC). That system did not have a modchip, but it was using the old independance exploit. The same system worked just fine with a 40GB maxtor, and with several other drives from other brands...but refused to work with the Maxtor 120.

As for the modchip, I would make a freeMCboot memory card, then open the system up and clip off all the wires going to the chip. This will dissable the chip, and any of the potential problems that existed with many of the older chips. IMHO, the only good place for a modchip is in a slim with XCM HDConnect, or in a late model 9xxxx series that don't work with freemcboot.
