Well I've had this PS2 Slim for about a year and a half now, and there's never been a problem with it.
Except for the noise it makes.
Ever since I got it, it runs perfectly fine other then the noise.
What it sounds like I really can't describe it, but it sounds like a loud 'shhhhhhhhhhhh' noise. The sound seems to come from the DVD reader side, but not the fans.
I went to a gaming store today and they said it was the laser lens, and that a replacement and installation at their shop was $85, which seemed a bit sketchy to me.
So I'm stuck at figuring out if it's the fan or the laser lens that's emitting all the noise from my PS2 Slim and how I can fix this.
Any form of help is welcome and thanks in advance!
Edit: Ok so I found a thread about lubricating the lens reader rails, but I tried it myself with some WD40. No changes.
Also after a bit more of just merely observing my PS2 Slim, I think the sound comes from the area right under the DVD reader, where the small slits/vents are.
As circled in red in this picture:
Any ideas?
Thanks again!
Yet Another Edit: Ok so I decide to open my PS2 Slim (model 77001 by the way) as the noise has pushed my curiosity and annoyance.
After opening it up, taking off the cover, I discovered that the fan it uses is quite small.
I plugged it in and turned it on and find out that it was indeed the fan that was making all that noise (and that there's nothing under the laser lens other than the motherboard).
Now that I know the source of the noise, is there anyway I can make it quiet?
Hell you could hear the fan from at least 10ft. away!
