I am having a slim PS2, SCPH - 90006.

Since the day I bought it, I have this eject button which gets stuck at times because of which the flip top remains open and won't close or clip into the latch.

What could be the issue?

Can I open and fix this myself? Should I lubricate the button so that it doesn't get stuck?

Thanks.

You have a year warranty or is it up already.

I would send it back for replacement if still under warranty.

If you press it fully in , then let it go quickly, does it then work.

There is a little flap that is not getting in contact with the clip when you press it in.

I don't really know of any fix for that.

If not, you could take it apart and see if anything is out of place.

There is video's on youtube I am sure on how to take apart and check.
It's already been modded/chipped, so I don't think I can claim warranty from Sony. Won't lubricating lightly help? Or will it be harmful. The button goes in and then fails to retract back readily.

I don't think lubricating will help. They are just plastic pieces, as far as I know.

I edited my post above, just reread it.

I have tried that a number of times, tried pushing it in, then releasing it like we ring a doorbell, still won't work.

I tried blowing air to check if there is any dust accumulated that is stopping it to move freely, but no help.

How does it work in your PS2?

When you press Eject on my V14, there are two little tabs that move to the right.
So when you take it apart, that is where you would be looking.

They are shown in the picture below where it says "Here"

I just had mine apart the other day and really never even looked at that part, seeing I have no issues with it.

Did you install the modchip or someone else. Perhaps they did something when taking the cover off, or it was that way from manufacturer.

So the tabs move to the right when you press EJECT, and then back to the left when I let go of it.

No, the modchip was already installed when I bought it. I never opened my ps2.

I haven't seen any guides on the latest PS2 that you have.

The only difference inside is the power supply and fan setup, I believe.

To take it apart should be pretty much the same as the V14, to just look at the Eject tabs.

You will basically be taking out 6 screws, then lifting the top off, but follow the guide on how to, as you have to be careful of the 'reset button'

If I see any other guides I will let you know.

Nope..it's different.

I am able to lift the cover from the three ends,
back, front, right hand side when looked from back.
But I can't even feel like the left hand side part is even budging.
I don't know how it was so easy on the one shown in the pdf!

This one is different. I feel, I'll break something.

I give up.

Until I get a guide for this model...its V18.
I can't dare to do that.:(

My Goodness..my PS2 ...TO HELL AND BACK!

It went kaput for a while, when one of the soldered wires from the modchip(which was so rubbishly and loosely soldered) came out! I was just too curious to know what modchip I was having.

I thought, I could just stick it right there on the joint for now and get it soldered later. But it wsn't working.

Just when I gave up and replaced back all the screws fr the last time with no hope, It magically worked!

But I will have to get it soldered anyway or get it done myself, coz any shake could again get that loose wire off.

But opening it was really tough, and it is tough every time I do it.

Coz the 4th side is weirdly clipped and doesn't come off easily.

I could not solve that eject button problem though.

But now, I am really not going to open it unless, that wire comes off.

Nice experience though...I would like to know which soldering iron should I get to get such tiny solder points soldered.

But I must tell you, that guy in the video is a genius. It's not easy as he makes it look. The top doesn't come off so easily.
