Hey all, I recently purchased a few broken ps2's with the intent of fixing them. When you try to turn this ps2 slim on, the light goes from red to green, then back to red again in about a seconds time. I searched around and have determined it's a blown SMD fuse, so I tested all the known fuses with a diagram and a multimeter set on continuity mode. All of them seem to be fine except one, which is labeled PS15.
According to this diagram, it's like...5 amps? I don't really know so much about electricy and how it works, but I can solder fine and have done a bunch of it in my spare time...
My question to you is, where in the world can I find a replacement SMD that's the same as this one? I search and search on google but am having no luck. Can anyone lead me in the right direction? Online store...parts store...I don't know, an alternative solution? Anything will help, thanks!
So I cut a strip of wire as long as my finger, and soldered one end to the start of the fuse, and one end to the end of the fuse. I wanted to see if it would start if I just bypassed the fuse, to see if that was the problem... I plug it in, and now the red light dosn't even come on. Is that a problem? I removed the wired, plugged it in and the red light comes back on, but if you press it I still get green for a sec, and then red again.
Does that mean it's not the fuse? I'm clueless. Please help.. :( I don't know if anyone still reads the ps2 fourms because the ps3 is quite old now and everyone has one, lol..
EDIT: Further update:
so few days later I wired in a car fuse rated the same thing. It changes the red light to off, like bypassing the fuse did. Then, when the fuse is disconnected the red light will come back on. So I'm guessing this is a different problem now?
I looked around to see what no light means, and I guess it could mean bad ribbon cables, but I made sure they were all plugged in all the way and stuff and no change.. This is driving me mad and I'm really close to giving up. ._. Please help if you read this.
