ps2 swap trick problem.

Hy everyone.
First of all I want to know if this post is in the right forum, cause I'm not sure.

Now the problem. I wanted to try a swap trick as described in this video:

So I followed the steps and opened the ps2 properly. I own a official copy of Grand Torismo (which is for ps1). But when inserting it, the ps gives an error that it couldn't read the disc. So I can't even try this trick.
Why can't my ps2 read the disc? It has no problems with other games of dvd's.
And another question: can I try this trick with a normal dvd (with a video on it) instead of a ps1 game? Or won't that work?

P.S.: I'm new in this stuff, so don't give me difficult words which I don't understand. I'm also not English, so typing this was allready difficult. But I will try to understand everything as good as possible

What game are you trying to swap? PS1 or PS2?

Try cleaning the lens. Maybe your PS2 has trouble reading PS1 games?

No, this trick doesn't work with a normal DVD because the machine needs to read certain files off an actual game disc.
