my V12 broke.
I imagine when I go to the store to buy a new one it will be V16 or VXX?.
I was curious if the latest models are the same for tape/tissue/straw modding.
The hardest part for me was the upper left censor. i tried with a straw but it never pushed the grey nob back (so i ended up opening up the system to push the nob down.
Anyway, are the newest models V16-V17(?) the same sensors?
AND will older swap magic , mine is 3.3 still work?
Are there any fullproof methods that DONT void warranty/require opening the system, besides buying magic tools?

Yes the tape and tissue work fine on all the newer model slims.
The latest V18, you only have to block TOOL A by the reset button to work with Swap Magic
The only thing about that version is, that its not compatible with fmcb 1.8 if the Date Code on the bottom is 8c or higher, only some 8c work.
So it would have to be an older version sold before March /08 as Sony changed the BIOS version in them.
Otherwise though your good to go on all the later slims.
The 7900x model, some have only two sensors too block and some you have to block all three. Again depends.
Sony made changes through out that model
The only way people have tried to not void warranty is too use an Xacto knife, and remove the sticker very slowly.

V18 sounds great for a swap magic user. ONLY one switch to tape down? And the easieset switch only to boot??
Um. Can I determine just by looking at the box what model number I am getting?
It appears the V18 is anything 9000X
again I hope I can get this info before buying it.

Most places should only have the V18 for sale.
It will say on the side or bottom of the box, what model it is
Places like EB games or Gamestop still sell other slim's for about $60 and some still have used FAT also.
So you should be fine, just look at the box.

can you or someone else please point me in the direction to find some media that says V18 9000X models only have one sensor I have to press?
I am about to go buy a 90001 model at Best Buy... but I want to make sure.
I have tried to search for images... I only see pics of PS2slims with 3 areas you have to "mod" aka 3 different sensors or locks... the upper left, upper right and the lower right of the tray.
THANKS! :-)

Well for one if you look up 'Swap Tool Pro V4'
You will only see one tool marked SCPH 9000x
Another is just type into google or afterdawn forums about
'Swap Magic and 9000x'
Check out 'japedo's profile here on afterdawn
He has made videos

Or read through our posts here

You can still follow the 'tape and tissue method', but you are just doing it for the 'reset' button.
http://www.geocities.com/pstwoslimline/tapetissue.htm Those tutorials were basically made when the V12 PS2 slim came out.
