is it not possible to take the box back for a refund or exchange it for a dreambox 500s ,if you can you should .you need to get the box first maybe a dm500s they are fairly cheap (at about £50 )all tho it will be a clone (dont worry about that they work just as well). you will need an image to flash to the box (this is the tv software )i would suggest downloading nabilosat darkstar11 image if your getting a dm500s ,you will need to buy a null modem cable and also download dreamup (this puts the image into the dreambox via the null modem cable) of course you will need a computer that has a 9 pin seriel port on it (the same kind of port that is on the back of the dm500s ),most boxes will have a 9 pin port ,take a look at the rear of the eurovox at its 9 pin seriel port and see if your pc has the same one. ideally you would have a computer that runs on windows xp (you can use vista but it can be extremely problematic)i recently bought an older dell desktop it has 2 usb slots and 2 9 pin seriel ports ,only cost ?50 and is great for flashing any box (you might consider the same )lastly a lot of these files you will download will be .rar or .zip files and wont open by just clicking on them you will need to download something like peazip or winrar for opening these files .should take some time also and have a good read through this thread first ,the above is what you need to get you started ,you need to take it one stage at a time .once you have your box flashed and setup for watching free to air channels you can then go to the next stage (you will require your box to be connected to your router by an ethernet cable for the next stage of things and for cardsharing )so have a good read first and when you have the box and cables etc and your ready to start get back to us .

you need to get setup first mate ,get the box flash it and hook it up to the broadband router, and get cccam installed on your box first (you cant do anything with the cline untill then in any case )a test cline will only work for about 24 hours so if your not setup you wont get to use it mate .one step at a time ,and you will get there. ill be glad to help you where i can and im sure so will the other guys.

cragf i was where you are at now. i am working on my box about 4 weeks and i am only looking at getting a test line. this is totally new to me but i can tell you there was a lot of stuff to look at. i have read forums over and over and getting confused hang in there there are some great members out there that will gladly help you and they will. but if you are new to this like i was it will take time and patience, 1 step at a time, have fun

Mancred, I agree that Linux is a pain and the dreambox is tough for the newbie. I would suggest that members are allowed to post stickies on basic operation. otherwise threads such as this beome a lot of frustration to members. To be honest I have no knowledege of how to be given priveledges to put a stickie in place. can any of you admin folk help in this

carrickro, there are only a number of basic steps
- learn how to put an image on your box (instructions vary based on dreambox type)
- load cccam emualtor from download menu (not very hard)
- configure cccam.cfg for internal or external use (this thread has explained it many times)
- learn how to setup up an account on dyndns or myip using Inadyn (not covered so well juste yet)
so I see that as being four stickies for basic dreambox use. then it gets a bit more compicated as to how to setup smargo, 7 day EPG, etc, but having done this for a few years its not so hard.

i agree fintann maybe if there was a way (within forum rules )that maybe members (what ever level )could create or add to a sticky ,or ask mods to maybe consider making a thread a sticky to help newbies it would help a lot .

thats great,i know us newbies with no knowledge of sat ask the same questions over and over again and this can get very fustrating for senior members.i myself even though at setting up box 4 weeks i do not work at box all time,i give it a break for a few days and read threads again. at moment going to get test line but will probably wait until next week or there about to look for it. man i love this challenge but fintanni i do wish i had a bit of practicial experience in programming and electronics but i am getting there at my pace. keep up the good work all

Hi everyone. Perhaps a silly question coming up so apologies in advance. I have a db500s with gemini flash. cccam 4.1.2 installed and I have an active sly card popped in. I restarted the camd from blue menu but still only picks up the FTA channels.

Do i need to be subscribing to the bas1c package via Sly or should it pick up these channels without the need to subscribe?

rooney you can get a plug in with the sky 7 day epg but you may have to change your image ,otherwise its just now and next im affraid mate. balcee you will need to upgrade your cccam to cccam 2.1.3 and set it as your default cam for the sky card to work (and it will only give you all basic pay channels and not movies or sports )you will need to enter the sky box boxkey in to cccam 2.1.3 to open the movies and the sports channels.if your paying for channels on that card it wont open anything (active will mean your card has a paid subscription).

Thanks pio. I meant to say the card is authorised, not active. Still nothing this morning. The cccam is set to 2.1.3 and it is default cam. I've stopped and restarted but still nothing. Any other suggestions?

if your using nabilosat image try this, press the blue button twice, you should see a menu with an EPG setup option, click OK on that & you should see options where the box should download EPG data from, select the satmate Sly UK option & then click download.
This information is based on my usage of a nabilosat blackstar image on a DM800HD but should be the same on the DM500 with similar image.

Any other suggestions?[/q do you have the sly box nearby ,can you hook it up to the dish and tv and put the card in to it as im not really sure what you mean when you say authorised ,when i say active i mean the card will atleast open the basic pay channels that you have paid for (then we can see what channels are on the card ) if it has atleast the basic pay channels on it and they are working on the sly box then they should be working on the dreambox . all that needs to be done to get the basic pay channels on the dreambox is to set the default cam as cccam 2.1.3 and press ok on the remote .if your default cam is cccam 2.1.2 it wont open the channels on a white sly card. so try the above balcee mate and get back to me .

boxkey in cccam.cfg must be incorrect. if your card opens many channels and you can only open basic channels it is always boxkey issue. use boxkey generator from www.satellites.co.uk

check your connection to your sat dish mikeyred. you should always have fta channles so its just a cable issue

piopat, did u get your dm7020 to recognize the smargo. in truth your ambition on this is not going to get you where you need to go. reality is that you have one usb port on the 7020 and this should be used for epg storage. you should not use internal hdd on the 7020 for any function, it should not be connected, as the heat will create other issues..

if you do not use internal hdd the card will work fine for sharing in the internal card slot provided in the 7020. you really do not need the smargo as you get latent loss over the usb connection. instead you use the usb connection to store a 7 day epg. this is the best and most complete solution for you

cragf you dont need to pay sky for a sky card you can just watch the free to air channels like itv/bbc etc which are very good (which gives you all the free channels ) but for card sharing either you buy a c line at a cost of about £50 for 3 months (pretty cheap ,but your credit card details are in their hands) .you pay sky and pay the full amount yourself or you pay sky for their services at the price they charge and set up a share with family or friends . if you have you and 5 people sharing thats about a £100 a year for all basic pay channels ,pay movies and pay sports not including espn (and the cost of a dreambox 500s is about £65 including p+p ,thats about £165 for the year) the days of getting a bit of firmware for free and reflashing your box are gone(sorry to say ) thats life we would all like some thing free but as i say that avenue is closed off atleast for now . mikey if your not getting even the free channels like fintann said either your cable has come loose/broken or your lnb has died (the lnb is the thing at the end of the dishes arm )if you have a mate who has a sky dish ask if you can connect your box to it ,if your box works for the free channels then your setup has a fault either the cable or the lnb. thanks fintann i know that box has issues with internal hdd and overheating, as of now i have the card in the internal cardreader , i used the smartreader tools and set it up for dreambox, i used vi editor as you suggested ,and i edited cccam (but i locked the line with a # symbol as i had not complted the set up ) i have not as yet had the time to complete it (i was trying to read up on as much as i could first,but i havent had the time) if you think its safe leaving the card as it is fintann thats great ,you have my full trust mate and you have steered me in the right direction all along . so thank you again my friend .

Thanks fintannl, but ive just made things worse, i was messing around in the menu and now ive lost all my bouqets and am really struggling and havent a clue what to do next. Im on c/s. im really not familiar with sat boxes at all. Any ideas?. Cheers.
