check in communication setup in your dm500s to see if nameserver and gateway have your router ip address ,if they dont you need to enable dhcp and then press green to save . now go back in to communication setup and see if nameserver and gateway are displaying your router ip . if they are disable dhcp and check that enable network is enabled and then press green to save . if this fails unplug the box and the router ,plug the box back in and let it boot up ,then plug the router in and see if the router can now see the box.

Sorry for my insolence Fint,I just can't stand posts like SORTED & no clues.
Anyway all 3 of us are dummies, cos we didn't think of Fano's solution

Yes you are missing something, unfortunately the something you are missing is knowledge.
You will need to read a few tutorials and guides (search this site or google for them), but it will be a slow process as there is a lot to learn.
Whatever you say, say nothing when you talk about you know what for if you know who might hear you, you know what youll get. Youll be sent off to you know where for you would not know how long. Maybe I could search through the threads so you dont have to ??

Hi guys
I got my second dreambox 500s today. On the main box i'm receiving the basic channels (need some help to see sports and movies) but can someone give me a clue as to what line I need to put into each cccam config file for each box please?
Thanks in advance.

to view the movies/sports you will need the boxkey of the sly box .you will need to download nds boxkey generator ,on the rear of the sly box you should see a sticker with a 17 digit serial number on it (type this in to the boxkey generator to get the boxkey )if you have no sticker thats ok press menu on your sly remote and press 4 and go in to services and then go in to system info . in there you will see a serial number but it will only have 8 digits (enter that in to boxkey generator )dont worry that its only 8 digits and not 17 the boxkey will be the same .
if your only sharing at home you can use something like this ,if your second box is in the bedroom you could have an f line like this F: share1 bedroom (that goes in to the cccam.cfg file in the box with the card in it ,your server box ) the c line for the box in the bedroom will look something like this C:192.168.0.100 12000 share1 bedroom . the number in the c line 192.168.0.100 is an example of an ip address (you put the ip address of the server box here ) 12000 is the default port ,share1 is the user name ,bedroom is the password ,you can use any user name or password in the c line but it must match the user name and password in the f line .
once you have the boxkey you need to put it in to cccam.cfg in the server box ,if you have created a new cccam.cfg file just type in BOXKEY:dev/sci0 00 11 22 33 (00 11 22 33 is an example of the boxkey ,put your boxkey here ),if your just editing the cccam.cfg that you get when you installed cccam first just scroll down to line number 317 . you will see #BOXKEY:dev/sci0 00 11 22 33 ,you need to remove the # symbol at the start of the line(the # symbol locks a line so cccam will ignore that line ) and then edit the boxkey number above and put in your boxkey .click on file and click on exit and save ,now reboot your box .

Just my tuppence on this. I would never buy a dreambox 500s if I could afford a little bit better. The 500s has no ability to store TV guide so while it is possible to view channels its a terrible pain not knowing what is in fact on. I have a clone DM800 (which has caused untold pain in itself due to lack of image support) but at least I have a 7 day TV guide for all channels. For those who are considering alternatives such as SV or Dreambox, I would suggest that you consider using a receiver that at least give/save EPG

Hi finn, yes I see where you're coming from but for a newbie i think the 500s is ideal as it's pretty simple to get going.

One dreambox to the next are very similar from a Linux point of view, so it is no harder to program a dm800 than a dm500. and at least you have a good box. the 500 is a painful experience and when you get through the experience you wish you had bought something else. so a clone dm800 will cost you 200 but you get hd, esata, usb. there are negatives, the biggest being lack of dual tuner, so you can watch and record at the same time. i never understood why after developing the 500, the 600, the 7020, the 7025 and then the 800 that they would not have incorporated all the improvements that were made as each box came out (ie. the 7025 had a dual tuner, so why didn't the 800 have a dual tuner).

there is a problem with some images where the frequency is specified at 28.4. However it is 28.2. Can I suggest you change your frequency to this band and rescan

Not true, sure there's not much memory to store a guide. But my workaround was that I chose the temp folder to store the guide and also set it to download each night.
Only issue is if the box needs a reboot then you'll lose your EPG from the temp folder and need to re-download.
A 500 is a decent cheap option if not interested in HD.
Also if you have a clone 800 like I do then I've found this site is great for patched images.

i would agree with fintann 100 % in what he says about the dm500 and fintann is probably one of the most knowledgeable people on this site ,and he is correct in that the dm500 is very limited ,but if you want to cs on a budget i suppose its pretty good. if you have the money go for a better box ,i have the dm7020 and find it excellent but its not hd etc but thats my next move. maybe its best to go one step at a time . that said if you got the money go for the hd box with usb etc. hi fint mate how are you havent spoken in a bit ,happy easter mate .

Piopat, great support to all members. 4031283, dm500 was great for the simple chorus/ntl epg which I continue to use it for. however takes more memory to store sly sat epg which is renderered differently to the MHW EPG support delivered by Upcee. The other aspect is storing movies which the esata on the dm800 is just the best. just plugged in a 1TB disk and recognized on the spot. wish it had a dual tuner but it has all else for a reasonable price.
i look on these boxes as intersting things to play with. the dm500 is not fun to play with as its got too many constant challenges to make the basic box worth the effort. So I do believe if the user has a few bob extra to spare then they will get value with a better spec dreambox.

mate you will need to contact your c line provider if thats how your getting your channels ask him if he will put it on for all his customers or perhaps you can pay him to purchase the event you want. happy easter fintann mate and to all on this thread ,i agree fintann the 500 is a great little box for basic cable or satellite on a budget but for the enthusiast yes you want a lot more ,like usb and epg and common interface etc the more the better.i have a lot of thread reading ahead of me to learn what i need ,i hope i might catch you up one day (experience wise)ill need to be reading a lot ha ha ,talk soon my friend ,happy easter .and thanks so much for all your help.happy easter my friend .

have found a good answer to the concerns of the dm500s as being not the best of receivers. as all will be aware sky+ is a dual tuner solution. So what I have done is connect the first connection into my dm800 which has an external hard-disk connected for taping purposes. the second connection goes into the dm500. so now i can tape on the DM800HD system and then switch to the 500 to watch other stuff while the taping is in progress. Also channel EPG is downloaded to the DM800 USB stick which can then be shared over the home network to the dm500. Kinda neat and works well. So ok the dm800 does not have a dual tuner, but now i have a good use for the dm500 and I have in effect a dual tuner solution that is affordable to many
ireilly have you the multitude of PPV bouquet channels. All of these are to be found at http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/dream...ly-updated.html

A question for the experts in here, im running the 500s and its working well with pli jade image. The question i have is can i pick a default channel to start when i switch on the box? Its a pain to have to change satellites and channel from 13e to 28.2 every time i switch on the box.

have open pli jade on my 500. truly cant say for certain if what you need is possible. To date, no matter what the image, I cant be certain what channel I get set up on first. Granted I have a simple 1 sat config, but will look into this. Interesting question. From image to image there is no guarantee that the last channel you were viewing will be the next channel you will be viewing once you switch your system on again

hi all finally got my dish up and running cccam 214, I did a mistake by buying a motorised dish not worth it, better off getting a sly type dish pointing to Astra 2 everything you need is there and works out a lot cheaper to buy but if your into foreign crap go ahead.
just on the note of the dream box 500, this box can do a lot of stuff! cause its Linux based, what I am trying to suss out at the moment is trying to make the box play streaming internet videos like you tube to my TV cause the way i see it, it all ready has a internet cable running from the router so there should be a way to do it that would be cool.
Another thing I trying to get sorted is to be able to watch the box on other TVs around the house using a thing called a AV wireless reviver, that way I change channels or go to bed and finish watching a movie, this way I don't have to buy another box and pay extra for the card sharing, which I am told for each box you do.
but if any boady has any beter solutions please let me know.
P.S. it took me at least 3 months to get my knowledge this far, so advice to any noobz read this forum from the start
