Originally posted by reswob: horro,i see your haveing some problems.im going to assume you followed clairb tut fully right to the point that you selected the istream server etc,etc[tut is back on page 9 starview 6 futureproof]my problem was in my ip settings all the six windows were blank.i got the required info to fill in these blanks by doing this[press the start button on your pc then>> run >> type in the black box >> ipconfig press enter]here is were you will find the info to fill out those blank spaces,im going by memory and going back over other posts here as that box was for a friend and i dont have it in front of me now.put your network settings to auto,nextbox ip,put in your ip address and make the last three digits greater than whats there{lets say the last three digits of your ip are 225,change them to 230 or 235..once there greater}subnet mask,gateway and dns boxes fill out with the info you got from pc.leave the 2nd dns and the user dns blank{o.o.o.o.}and press apply....if successful these boxes will revert back to all zeros for a few seconds then come back on filled in again,exit back out till you get a picture......im certain the last three digits of the ip address were greater if this does not work try making the last three digits lesser.good look mate
Try this;
Network setting------Auto
Select-- 1st DNS
APPLY
The box should collect all req. data from network itself.

if you google starview 6 a list of suppliers will appear,i have my own supplier,i will not advertise them here.as regards the life span of the box,it appears there is a built in timer in the box and after one year the box goes dead,there is a possibility it could go dead before that?who knows...

That would certainly kill the second hand market anyway. Maybe someone here will work out a hack to reset the internal timer. If that happens, maybe I will be more interested in investing (as I'm sure everyone else would be). But I'd be fearful of using it with their broadband due to potential packet sniffing - would have to change supplier I guess but that's no skin off my nose ;)

the Sv firmware has always been closed source and for very good reason. Think its just the case of thats the deal with the boxs, dont like it, dont buy one and vice versa
